Just out today in Netflix. I am halfway through but plan to be finished by tonight. Thought I'd set up a thread here to discuss. I am so intrigued by this case!

I watched it today.

The officer investigating said that many were pulled off the search of the hotel because of another problem. So , with less people to search everywhere , they probably only checked the roof and didn't see the lid off the tank.
It was the fact that the other officer said the lid was on the tank that made the Internet sleuths speculate that it may have been a murder.
It took many episodes to get this point but I feel it's clear she did get into that water tank herself and sadly drowned :(
By pressing the buttons on the lift as she did, it made it just not work that well plus it may well have been playing up ! Lifts do and I can imagine that maintenance of them was a bit hit and miss at times too. She hadn't been taking her meds properly and this led to her having hallucinations and being difficult with the other guests as well.
They said that sometimes footage is altered so that people can see it properly , so they may have slowed it down a bit which seemed reasonable to me if they want the public's help to see what happened without it being too fast to see.
I also watched ' don't f with cats' this week and they really did do their homework on that case.
I think that ' everything is a conspiracy' can sometimes be a bit dangerous although the police did mess up on the Elisa Lam case purely by not noticing the lid off the tank at first
It was sad though. She was clearly troubled :(

I think the documentary did a good job of debunking all the theories and explaining what most likely happened. So I think it helps her be put to rest.

But agree they went round the houses a lot to get there - could’ve been half the episodes.

These type of documentaries are so slow and do take ages to reach the main points.
The UK ones tend to be better and less dramatic I've found.
Once they revealed about the tank lid I knew then that it had been a tragic accident.
They also said that someone taking her up to the top of the tank by force would have meant she would have sustained so many more injuries as well. She didn't have any marks on her.
There were mistakes made , but I bet most investigations do have discrepancies we just don't hear about usually.
The hotel did move her to her own room when she was upsetting the other residents so I think they did what they could.
It was sad though. She was in a bad place I think.

Lot of questions remained unanswered. There are too many strange coincidence s

Huh?

It's clear what happened. Even the crazy 'web sleuths' admitted in the end that it was just a very sad story of a young woman who had a psychotic episode and jumped into a water tank. Thats it.

This could have easily been one episode rather than dragged out by the bizarre ramblings of the youtubers. It must have been infuriating to be police involved with this case and having them sticking their noses in thinking they knew best. Several of them were nothing less than scumbags.

I felt very sorry for the death metal artist who was cyber bullied based on their spurious connections with him to the crime. Poor guy.

This really was vile. So many lowlives pretending to be human beings. A cheap, tacky, despicable series which preyed on the devastating loss of a family. To treat mental illness as entertainment for others is something which belongs back in the Victorian era.

A great number of the US "true life crime" series are similarly treated. Close ups of patches of blood; blurry photo of victim. Interviews with "close family friend" who is obviously thinking of someone else...

Each prog starts "It was a quiet liddle township whurr evrybuddy knew..." And, of course, there has been NO CRIME there! Ever! Within the first minute, the words "close-knit" and "church" will be mentioned. Then there is a run down of the facts, what happens, and who did it.At that point. the "REAL story" begins.

Horrible. Then they are always on in the background here, and until my household and others stop watching. they will continue producing them

BlackCatShadow · 23/02/2021 07:58

I follow true crime a bit, so at first I didn't see the point in watching this, but it was still an interesting watch. I feel sad for her family, but hopefully this documentary will help stop people speculating about what happened to her. It was interesting to hear the janitor say the lid was off. That has been such a key point for so many.

FredAstairesChair · 23/02/2021 08:13

Sensationalism at it's best. It's slightly interesting if you're into MH perils and how they can be so so dangerous but, all the dramatic talk and the mysterious over-dramatised content I mean seriously? Do people really buy into this dramatic crap? The Cecil hotel is an awful place. The manager was clearly reading from a script. Death metal is cheesy ott music not anything to do with this case.
Utterly ridiculous, and that's not going into how wrong I personally feel it is to use someone's troubles and life difficulties for entertainment.

TheresAnEyeInMeSoup · 23/02/2021 21:56

I watched this recently. Very tragic story, you can tell the poor girl is not in her right mind.

I felt very sorry for the death metal guy, he didnt deserve that.

Agree this documentary felt very padded out, and could have been wrapped up if they stated whether the lid was off the tank or not when the maintenance worker got there. I cringed at the bloke who called himself a YouTuber, he seriously needs to grow up.

What got me about this was the co Amy that recently bought the Cecil Hotel are planning to put a swimming pool on the roof which I feel is in poor taste, and also a roof top bar..... hmmm what could possibly go wrong when you're drunk and 15 storeys up???

Agree, the couple from Plymouth seemed to be dumber than they looked and I wondered if they were acting up for the cameras or told to say that stuff.

Sadly it's another stretched out drummed down Netflix show.
