I had had enough of the ugly black box staring at me. Mocking me, making my children turn into zombies. So I ripped it out of the wall (you should have seen my kids faces)

We are not missing it at all. Even my book phobic ds was playing Scrabble last night. Anyone else chucked theirs away and regretted/enjoyed it???

I have not had one since June 2003. It is fab.

Having said that, we are prob going to get one in the next year or so, but it will be STRICTLY limited for dd, and dh and I will not watch it at all

it is easy to live without it

RGPargy · 10/10/2007 13:34

But but but but.......

WONT SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

Incidentally, i think you're very brave!

doggiesayswoof · 10/10/2007 13:37

We chucked ours before dd was born, so she has never lived in a house with one...

Much respect to you for managing to do it when the dc were already in the habit.

I am racking my brain trying to think of other mners who are tv-free, but not coming up with any names - I know there are some out there though.

NomDeBroomstick · 10/10/2007 13:38

"making my children turn into zombies"

what is so wrong with having a tv but limiting it ? Everything in moderation and all that.....

doggiesayswoof · 10/10/2007 13:42

Nothing wrong with that at all NDP

Nothing wrong with getting rid either

mrsmerton · 10/10/2007 13:55

I did try limiting how much they watched. But my middle ds was getting up at 5am and settling down infront of the telly until 7 when I got up. 2 hours of goggling was not good for him!

Also, having 3 kids of different ages, one dd, 2 ds's meant CONSTANT arguing, who wanted to watch what, it's my turn blah blah blah.

No longer! They each have a personal DVD player if they feel like watching something, so I'm not taking away the 'thrill of the screen' entirely.

Nice to have a peaceful front room back. We now call it the parlour.

I almost did this on Sunday. Not because of the DDs who aren't particularly interested in tv, but because of DH.

We spent last week in Italy, in a villa without a tv, and had a really great family time, playing games, chatting etc.

First day home on Sunday and DH spent the entire day watching rugby, motor racing, top gear, whilst I dashed about catching up on washing, ironing, cooking, dealing with the girls. When the girls were finally in bed I downloaded all our holiday photos onto our laptop and attempted to show DH, who half-heartedly looked at it, with one eye on the tele. Made me mad.

Good for you for ripping it out. It causes a lot of friction in families IMO.
