Loved Cardinal too but seem to be running out of things to watch
Any recommendations or scandi/thriller type programs ?
Ideally on Netflix

Try Stranger. It's Korean, got that scandi-noir vibe 👍

Username1284 · 15/10/2020 08:00

The killing (Danish), trapped (Icelandic), Hidden & Hinterland are both Welsh but with a bleak scandi noir feel.

rosegoldwatcher · 20/10/2020 17:50

Bordertown - set in Finland. Three series on Netflix.
Seriously good.

whatnametopick · 21/10/2020 20:03

Agree with border town on Netflix

ErrolTheDragon · 21/10/2020 20:11

Occupied - Norwegian political thriller/drama

Username1243 · 22/10/2020 23:49

@rosegoldwatcher , @ErrolTheDragon
I was looking for Bordertown on Netflix and ended up watching Borderliner which is set in Norway and is very good.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/10/2020 09:12

Trapped was very good.
Follow the Money (Danish), if you haven't seen it.

Currently watching DNA (Danish) - BBC4.

Mystery Road, though set in Australia, has Sofia Helin (Saga) in series 2. BBC4

(She's also in Same Sky, set in East & West Germany in 1974. MORE4).

Thanks a million

"I was looking for Bordertown on Netflix and ended up watching Borderliner which is set in Norway and is very good."

I think I will retract my recommendation for this. The first few episodes were very good and then it went downhill with a completely bizzare ending.

Prizepudding · 01/11/2020 19:46

Borgen, I wouldn’t usually watch something based on politics but loved this as much as the bridge. It’s on Netflix but I think you need to take the dubbing off and watch in Danish with subtitles to fully appreciate it

HelloMist · 24/11/2020 14:41

the Department Q series of Danish films (based on novels).

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08n5dsm/episodes/guide

they may return to iplayer in the future (I think a fourth film is coming). For now, the first 2 are quite £2-4 to rent on Amazon Prime, may be available elsewhere. One of the lead actors was in series 3 of the Killing and some other Scandi series.

Following the other recs, thanks @ICouldHaveCheckedFirst, will bookmark Same Sky to watch after I finish the Bridge.

ZaZathecat · 24/11/2020 14:48

All of the above plus DNA on BBC Iplayer.

Shenadoah · 14/12/2020 14:40

From Finland, on Netflix, both Bordertown and Deadwind.

The Valhalla Murders (Iceland) on BBC4 - got better as it went on; was as good if not better than Trapped.

Also, so excited that i-Player is now streaming all previous seasons of the French crime drama Spiral in preparation for the final season airing in January! We missed the first few series due to not being able to imagine French crime dramas being as good as Scandi ones. Wrong!

LopsidedWombat · 15/12/2020 17:25

Have you watched Perfume on Netflix? It is quite dark and very interesting. It only has one series sadly, but a second is on the cards as far as I know.

Ginfordinner · 15/12/2020 17:27

Another vote for The Valhalla Murders. I thought it was better than Trapped, and Spiral - utterly brilliant.

Lampan · 18/12/2020 08:17

I came here to say Deadwind but someone has beat me to it!
I have just finished The Bridge (loved it!)
Another very very good one I have watched recently is Caliphate on Netflix. So gripping. It’s definitely one of my favourite lockdown box sets. You can watch it either dubbed or in Swedish with subtitles.

Mxflamingnoravera · 18/12/2020 18:42

I've just finished the Valhalla murders, it felt a bit like it was a rehashed story from something I'd already seen, I guessed the outcome quite early on. I much prefer Spiral and the bridge. DNA was ok too.

I'm currently liking Industry- a totally different genre but gripping and very sexy.

I started Caliphate, but it didn't click with me.

I'm starting back on Spiral again. There was another with the lawyer from Spiral in it which I really enjoyed, can't remember what it was called but the plot was similar to Valhalla (ah maybe that's where I've seen it before).

The Welsh ones were good too, very dark and unpleasant, but gripping.

I watch them whilst on my exercise bike making up for not being able to swim because of lockdown etc.

@Mxflamingnoraverax - Witnesses?

Whydidimarryhim · 31/12/2020 19:27

All episodes of spiral are available on bbc I player in preparation for the final season. Brilliant drama.

colouringindoors · 31/12/2020 19:29

Another vote for DNA. Thanks to poster who flagged up what else Saga actress is in!!!

ManWithARash · 31/12/2020 20:15

DNA was ok.
Just watched 2 french series, La Mante and Red Shadows.
La Mante is quite good, Red Shadows started well but I quickly began to hope that it would end soon.
I often think french TV is obsessed with style and beautiful people (mainly women) rather than substance and gritty reality.

EraOfTheGrey · 01/01/2021 01:55

Giri/Haji is good. Its set in Tokyo and London.
