Socially distanced Soaps..... strange?

Is it just me, or is anyone else finding the latest soaps, where they are doing socially distanced filming a bit odd? I know they have no option, but it's still strange to watch. Two recent examples, a proposal with no hugs/kisses and someone who just found out they were unexpectedly pregnant, shares the news with no hugging!

The worst for me was when Gary in corrie got run over and Sarah was at a distance calling over to him on the floor.
It does look really silly in some scenes as you would naturally be close to someone in that situation

It looks a bit daft at times, yes. There was a scene in the Rovers where 3 people stood in a large triangle around the bar talking.... no other customers. It was very awkward. It's better than no filming though so we just have to overlook it!

Yes that was actually the first scene I noticed it in!

I noticed it when Yasmeen started having a heart attack and Adam sort of shouted from afar and she started to collapse and he still just shouted from afar Grin I don't know they can't help it so I just overlook it but it is very noticeable at times

I dont watch british soaps, but seems like a good opportunity to add some storylines where the social distancing impacts on the storyline, like the heart attack mentioned above. Will someone keep two meters away and watch someone die?

However, i guess that would then date those storylines.

I feel like in a tragedy, social distancing would go out of the window for me in real life... I find it interesting to watch how they're handling it on screen though

Totally weird and I'd rather not watch.

My son was riding ahead of me on his scooter a few weeks ago and fell off and cut his knee, there was dripping blood and he was crying on the floor. A man was near him and I could see he was itching to see to my son whilst I ran over but he didn't.
I could tell he felt awkward but I don't blame him. I do think if someone got run over or had a heart attack then our instincts would be to help and sod the social distancing.

I am glad they're still filming soaps though especially as they don't seem to have made anything new for TV so its all we have apart from all the repeats being shown. Christmas tv is always a bit naff but will be worse this year. I realise I sound like I need to get a life.. away from the tv 😆

Had this recently an elderly lady fell over a barrier going into a shop fell flat onto her face. Everyone kind of stood round till a few of us moved forward to help her. It was awful and nobody knew what to do hoping she would sit up ok but she didn’t. I guess in a soap it’s not real so they can’t risk the actors by having what would be a normal human reaction to help.

TheGriffle · 09/08/2020 19:45

In real life I’d probably run over to help someone then jump back and apologise for helping once I realised what I’d done. Grin

Yes I hate it. Before they said it would look ok cos of camera trickery and stuff but this is so not the case!
It's so obvious I mean I guess they can't help it but I just hate it I watch Tele to not be reminded of coronavirus but not a lot we can do about this one I guess
I do wonder how much everyone is keeping away from each other off screen though cos obviously not everyone is nowadays

I think it's great actually as it's very much 'of our time'. The only time it's strange is when it's members of the same household and they don't hug when that would be appropriate but otherwise even that's ok as generally they're just in different rooms / on separate sofas.
