World is dead
1001 carriage train is all that's left.
Each carriage has a class
Rich folks do nothing, poor do everything.
Daft premise
Decent acting
Few surprises.
Worth watching.

I loved this - I didn't think it was a daft premise? It was sci-fi and a fairly unusual idea too. I hear there is to be a second series Smile

You don't think that a 1001 carriage train holding the only survivors of the human race is daft?
I just couldn't help wonder who fixes the track? If something happened to the track in Chicago whilst the train was in New York, they'd all be screwed..
And if money is meaningless, why keep the rich people on board draining resources?

But I have a habit of overthinking things. 😂

It's a thought experiment I suppose - about what is valuable and how we maintain class divisions. I do wonder why - given they have already coughed up for the ticket - the first class people still had clout. I suppose the person in charge didn't want to make waves given what was being hidden.
Yes of course I see that the train keeping going for ever was very unlikely Grin I wonder how long it would take for the earth to warm up a bit?

I thought it was brilliant and I can't wait for season 2. The final episode was amazing!

ArriettyJones · 02/08/2020 22:35

I got fed up with it a couple of weeks ago (after the hose thing). Should I persist then?

LittleLebowski · 05/08/2020 17:45

Plot did sound ridiculous and apparently the film is way better, but we really enjoyed it in my house! I do love a post apocalypse scenario and though some twists were not surprising, it was an exciting last few episodes. I liked Ruth from hospitality very much and Jennifer Connelly was excellent. Mickey Sumner, who plays the guard Bess, is Sting's daughter!

CrowleysBentley · 13/08/2020 04:54

I like it. I thought the original film was pretty good too.

Aridane · 13/08/2020 05:01

I think it’s fucking awesome

mrwalkensir · 17/08/2020 20:20

wonderful- looking forward to the second series next year

JanewaysBun · 17/08/2020 20:25

I thought it was too silly sorry! It makes no sense, why do they have to keep moving? How do they get new clothes etc? As per my username I live a bit if sci fi but thought the story was a bit cliches too

I am four months late to the party, and have only watched a couple of episodes, but I have a query about the premise.

In a world in which fuel must be at a premium (increased demand to keep warm, reduced supply due to environmental catastrophe) why would you use up so much of it on unnecessary travel? I realise the train was there and ready to be used, but so are military bunkers in hollowed-out mountains, and they would be far more fuel-efficient.

Faircastle · 25/11/2020 18:50

From googling, apparently the engine is a perpetual motion machine which doesn't need fuel (I haven't yet reached the bit where this is explained) but what about heat loss to the outside, energy loss to friction etc. My mind keeps saying "But, physics!"

After seeing this thread, ive watched Snowpiercer this week. I really enjoyed it, but I don’t tend to think too deeply about bigger questions (like how did the train keep moving).
Thanks for the recommendation.
