Not sure if a repeat. Doesn’t say r on the guide

A family gives up their 21st century technology and travel back in time. As they enter the 50’s it’s goodbye to their flat screen tv and hello to a piano and darning 😂

OP posts:
Thisismytimetoshine · 12/06/2020 22:37

Very unimpressed at the piano smashing Hmm.

And walking out of the church mid service was just plain pig ignorant, whatever her personal feelings on the matter. She was taking part in an experiment; stalking out because it was boring was appalling.
Bring back the Robshaws! I really didn't like this lot.

ppeatfruit · 13/06/2020 09:52

Yes Thisismy IMO she was quite negative right through the programme. The children were fine, the dad was like a little boy!

backintimeweekender · 13/06/2020 10:13

Hello everyone . I'm the mum from the series. Have obviously NC for this Grin and will NC back after.

Glad you are enjoying the repeats.

Last one is on today at lunchtime so fill your boots !

We also love the Robshaws (dinner) Ellis (tea) and Irwin (brixton) families. Smile

Just a little keepsake from the show in the pic.

Ahhh hi @backintimeweekender bet it feels like quite a while since you did this now? What was your favourite decade? And did you fancy Giles (too)?! 🤣

backintimeweekender · 13/06/2020 10:17

It was a while back and DS is over 6 feet tall now with a very deep voice. Grin

Erm no to fancying Giles. He's a nice chap though, even when I cooked some pretty rubbish food for him (pate in aspic anyone?) he was quite polite about it.

Fave decade was the 70s for all of us.

Youngatheart00 · 13/06/2020 10:19

My DH “that boy’s going to be PM one day!” about your son!!

backintimeweekender · 13/06/2020 10:21

@young Seth will be chuffed with that 😂😂😂

Appuskidu · 13/06/2020 10:23

Ha ha-we we’re talking about this last night-are you all quite tall or is Giles teeny, @backintimeweekender ?

Loved the series and your family-don’t know how I missed this one the first time round. It made us want to do a murder mystery evening!!

Holeywalls · 13/06/2020 10:25

@backintimeweekender how did you not punch Mr M in the face when he said that rude comment to you?

backintimeweekender · 13/06/2020 10:36

Mr M (Derek to his friends) was utterly charming and that was gentle ribbing so I found it quite funny. He really put us through our paces. I was so sweaty. ^^ Grin

Holeywalls · 13/06/2020 10:37

That’s not so bad then. I was giggling at you struggling with the stepping Grin

ppeatfruit · 13/06/2020 10:41

OMG backintime Sorry Blush for the criticisms!!!! What is odd is that I thought, I wonder if the mum is on MN!!! And you are!!!! Ooops Blush

ppeatfruit · 13/06/2020 10:48

I liked the dancing, comparing the square dancing with the hideous 'house' stuff. I'm showing my age now! I thought you did well. What is so strange is that I lived through those years and seeing it through the eyes of youngsters is soo interesting

KaronAVyrus · 13/06/2020 10:54

I loved this show. The 70s seemed the best decade, purely based on the family having fun together, but I enjoyed watching the 90s the most, just pure nostalgia. So glad I didn’t have to experience what my grandma did as it all seemed such drudgery in the 1950s

@backintimeweekender. Your son was such a sweetie pie.

backintimeweekender · 13/06/2020 11:02

@ppeatfruit no worries at all. When you choose to go on the telly and come into the Mumsnet lair you know what you're in for Grin

ppeatfruit · 13/06/2020 12:14

Thanks for being understanding, Grin I do try not be too unpleasant Grin yes it must be quite a difficult choice to make! Definitely a double edged sword.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2020 17:13

@backintimeweekender I assumed you and any mum is on here from reality tv 😂

Can I ask why you walked out of the church

You were meant to behave like they would

A Woman wouldn’t dare walk out

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 14/06/2020 12:47

Blondes The 5os wasn't the Victorian times. My Mum was an atheist and she would certainly have walked out of church !!

We hear the reactions of the families from the aspect of modern times, they aren't 'pretending' to be ACTUALLY living in the past are they?

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/06/2020 13:19

I just found the reaction weird. I did The first time and do still now

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/06/2020 13:27

Which seems I Started 😂😂

ppeatfruit · 14/06/2020 14:54

Yes thanks Blondes It 's interesting. Grin

DrCoconut · 14/06/2020 23:05

Was this the series that featured Oxford Road in Manchester in the 90's episode? Or was that one of the more food themed ones? I remember buying stodgy from Abdul's after a night out 😂

backintimeweekender · 15/06/2020 07:23

@Blondeshavemorefun the reasons for me leaving church were complicated and deeply personal, not boredom or disrespect I cried buckets as it was rather difficult and emotional. I didn't wear makeup in the 1950s though so luckily no running mascara!

We were just us, no scripts , just living the life 24/7 according to the rules in the handbook. We agreed as a family to keep to the rules and as they took all of our tech, disconnected the phone and WiFi and even had our wallets and cash, cheating would have been impossible GrinThey even took contemporary books etc away to make sure we were immersed and no one was allowed to talk about contemporary news stories around us. We were in s bubble.

The main idea is to get a modern view on history - we see the differences and inequality so clearly through modern eyes. It's a fascinating experience and we all felt incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to do it. And as I'm a strident feminist it gave me plenty to rage about Grin as I was knackered running around after everyone all the time and the ridiculous inequality of it shone out (to us all).

Despite that it was still the most fun and remarkable time of my life and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/06/2020 08:27

How did they find your family ? Or did you see an advert and apply

Must be interesting and guess hard as what we are used to

Tho obv then the families didn’t know any diff

I didn’t realise that-they should say that on the program. You were properly immersed!!
