I loved this - but I have had a few glasses of wine.
Siobhan Finneran is fabulous in everything.

And Neil Pearson!

I love it! Fizzy tea 😂

Really moving in places.

HeIenaDove · 26/06/2020 21:27

I watched all these on i player last weekend. I love the twist at the end of the last episode. Some brilliant guest stars and agree.............Rebecca Front is good at anything she does.

sadwithkiddies · 27/06/2020 11:40

brilliant laugh out loud....

The80sweregreat · 28/06/2020 21:59

I'm a bit of a Cat character sometimes : when she gave up trying to ride that bike and just throws in the towel at the first hurdle ; that's me and I was much worse when I was younger too!
It was funny when she threw that slow cooker at the guy ! She is very flaky.

feedingfrenzyatfive · 28/06/2020 22:08

I have also watched it via the iPlayer as TiVo only picked up the pilot. It's great and the amount of female characters is fantastic. Holly Walsh co-wrote it and she was one of the people behind the excellent 'Motherland'.

UnitedRoad · 02/07/2020 16:57

I’ve just finished watching it, and enjoyed it so much. I wish there were more programmes like this

OhioOhioOhio · 02/07/2020 16:58

This sounds great.

FunTimes2020 · 03/07/2020 15:05

@WiryTail

I'm in the minority, turned it off after 10 minutes.
Me too!
TheKickInside · 03/07/2020 15:09

I loved, loved, loved this!

Such great writing.

"Why is she dressed like someone who runs a cattery?" "She's doing Nordic Walking".

And the main characters are complex, likeable, as well as funny.

spiderlight · 03/07/2020 15:27

We finished this last night. I really enjoyed it, although the end surprised me - I thought it was going to be Kitty. I hope there's a second series.

I liked the understated exploration of agoraphobia as well - it was resolved a bit too quickly to be realistic but it's so rarely even acknowledged on TV.

The twist definitely suggests a second series. Like another poster I also thought it might be the barmaid.
Extracurricularfatigue · 06/07/2020 13:21

I think we were all MEANT to think that. I didn't recognise Charlotte Ritchie - I kept telling DH it was someone familiar who looked like her. I was very pleased with myself to work out Caroline Quentin, although that was very much one of those moments where you realise you need to drastically adjust your mental imagine of someone.

I really hope there's a second series. We loved it.

Katinski · 06/07/2020 13:48

I'll definitely use that "cattery" line, know just the person it fits...miaoGrin
Thanks for the thumbs up on this, really really enjoyed it. Got fooled by the twist at the end!

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/07/2020 13:57

I loved the Caroline Quentin character - very jolly hockey sticks.

Extracurricularfatigue · 06/07/2020 15:55

She was great, wasn't she? And I realised how used I've got to Julia Davies comedies that I was a bit surprised, but relieved, that she didn't turn out to be an odd grotesque sort.

spiderlight · 06/07/2020 16:54

I sat all through the first Caroline Quentin episode going 'What's she been in???' - didn't twig until I saw her name in the credits. But then I have famously awful face recognition skills!

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/07/2020 17:55

She was very different to her Men Behaving Badly Days. I realise how long ago that was and how much older I probably look too.

0blio · 06/07/2020 18:48

I loved it so much, it was very funny and so heartwarming. I hope they make a second series.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/07/2020 19:35

"Why is she dressed like someone who runs a cattery?" "She's doing Nordic Walking".

Slightly off-topic, but did anybody else see when they discussed the programme on Points of View - and there was some bloke who was horrified that they weren't using proper Nordic walking poles?! So glad I didn't realise the complete inauthenticity of their poles, otherwise it would have completely spoiled an otherwise brilliant comedy series for me Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/07/2020 19:45

That's the clincher for me, I think. There's always a solid place for programmes which are essentially a set-up for one-liners - like Not Going Out - but it takes it to another level completely when there's genuine pathos too. I love the way that Cat and Cathy haven't just both merged into a centre ground - they've developed a deep natural affection and respect for each other how they already essentially are.

I also find it hilarious how Cathy is such a complete people-pleaser and doormat except for when it comes to Marcus. It seems like all of her pent-up frustration at how others treat her gets rolled into one big rage and is unleashed all at once at Marcus on regular occasions!

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/07/2020 19:50

They weren't using the proper technique either. Grin

MrsGrindah · 06/07/2020 19:53

I really liked this. Excellent soundtrack. But I missed NeilPearson?

PareidoliaNephophile · 07/07/2020 04:35

Thank you @Hepzibar Flowers sodastreamed Wine Wink
Have bad insomnia atm and was feeling really down. Remember reading about this series but had totally forgotten about it - would have missed it had it not been for your thread. It has cheered me up so thanks Cake x

The80sweregreat · 07/07/2020 11:09

Caroline Quentin was fab.
I do like her acting as she is so natural.
It's always so funny how Cat throws in the towel so quickly yet expects others to carry on! Great character.

Extracurricularfatigue · 07/07/2020 16:27

@MrsGrindah

Neil Pearson was the bad blind date that Cathy's mum went on in the second episode. Although it was a real Drop the Dead Donkey reunion with Stephen Tomkinson as well, and he was clearly having enormous fun playing the awful teacher!
