Is there life beyond Netflix??

DH will watch things once. He thinks he has 'finished' Netflix and wants to stop paying for it. We already have Disney + as it's replacement. I however will watch things again. I used to have a massive DVD collection because if I love a show then i like to be able to revisit it when I'm in the mood. Plus, the kind of shows I like tend to have a fairly brisk release schedule so there's usually a new season of something for me to look forward to. I've negotiated an extension until august when the last part of Tales of Arcadia is out (I like kids tv, it's fun and easy for my poor sleep deprived brain to follow), and then it's good bye Netflix, for a while at least. Has anyone else given up Netflix? How do I cope without it?
Just to cover the boring facts our money is joint, and we've pretty much spent it all trying to fix up our new house...

You can get Netflix gift cards and binge watch what you want?

PuppyMonkey · 03/06/2020 21:59

New stuff comes onto Netflix all the time - he can’t have “finished” it.Confused

GlumyGloomer · 03/06/2020 22:06

Puppymonkey
I know, right? He prefers movies though so that may have something to do with it. His plan is to subscribe again in a year by which point loads of new stuff will have accumulated. I know I'll find other stuff to watch, but netflix was just so gloriously easy

Tell him to take a hike, I would. My netflix helps at night when I cannot sleep. If I could not have it would hit him over the head with a pillow. Grin

RememberTheSunnierDays · 03/06/2020 22:14

And it’s £11.99 a month...

Queenoftheashes · 03/06/2020 22:16

He’s insane. I mainly watch things on repeat on Netflix.

Damia · 03/06/2020 22:34

I love netflix, but there are others you can get. Now tv? Amazon prime? I'm sure there are others as well

justasking111 · 03/06/2020 22:38

£8.99 a month for two devices. Well worth it.

Juanmorebeer · 03/06/2020 22:41

I think it is amazing value for money. But you could have a break for a bit and do nowtv instead for a few months? I really rate it.

Beautiful3 · 03/06/2020 22:45

I'm always watching series all over again, as I've forgotten what happened anyway! It's so cheap and new stuff always comes on.

GreenLeafTurnip · 03/06/2020 23:00

Why is your husband dictating your Netflix subscription?

justasking111 · 03/06/2020 23:00

BBC licence is £13 a month and we rarely watch it these days.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/06/2020 23:04

I got Apple free for a year

Servant and The Morning Show are very good but there isn't enough to justify paying for it yet

Disney+ seems an odd switch, all very family oriented films wise and as yet no mature drama series

GlumyGloomer · 04/06/2020 05:19

Tbf it was his Netflix subscription to begin with. I could pay it out of my spending money but as I said we're broke and do need to cut back.
Disney has all the marvel and star wars stuff. We are both geeks and don't watch conventional dramas anyway, plus we have a 4 year old.

So it looks like no one leaves the netflix fold and my DH is a freak for suggesting it, lol. I guess I'll see how things look in august.

Good point re tv license. We use cbeebies moderately often, but not as much as netflix. I don't want to get inundated with threatening letters though so I just sort of think of it as an extra tax.

In our house we have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+. We rarely watch live TV and the reason for so many subscriptions is I had Netflix when we met, he had prime and with a five year old we us Disney, plus as another poster rightly said it’s not just for young kids, there’s national
Geographic, marvel and Star Wars too. For a short time we did the free trial of Now TV for the final GOT. We
Can’t get virgin where we are and my partner refuses to have Sky.

I wouldn’t get rid of day of it, but we don’t watch soaps and have watched on demand for years - just more convenient.

It’s also really interesting how
Couples manage their finances - we do it the other way around, so we each put the same amount into a joint account for household expenses and the rest of our salaries are ours to do with as we please -
My salary Doesn’t go into the joint account. I know that doesn’t work
For everyone, especially if you’re on quite different salaries, but I’d personally hate to be constrained like that - each to their own.

LovingLen · 05/06/2020 11:15

If just you are watching it can you downgrade to the £5.99 one, I have that as generally only I watch it in our house in

elkiedee · 05/07/2020 12:25

I have Virgin TV and it's relatively straightforward to link to Netflix, Amazon Prime and BBC Iplayer from it, and All4. Virgin also has its own service where you can rent things which I'm avoiding because I don't have the money and I can't be sure I'll watch things within a day or two.

I've noticed though that they don't list everything that's available on the search function on the TV, and that Iplayer and All4 also have a lot of backlist stuff available - I think they may have put some things back up during lockdown. This includes things that have been put on Netflix as well.

I think the £5.99 Netflix sub, which we have, allows you to have it on more than one device, just not to watch it on more than one at the same time.
