Anybody watching? Well worth checking out.

Not read book but thought series was excellent and I can't imagine the story arc if Perle & Mia were white.

Given all that is being discussed at the moment re BLM: thought it was interesting.

Interesting adaptation, gripping, and very relevant given the current social situation.
One thing that annoyed me though; what happened to Izzy? I found her end story most unsatisfactory given she had such a major role in the series.

Hyperfish101 · 07/07/2020 06:34

Thought it was better than the average Netflix/Prime type of series. Kerry Washington’s acting annoyed me though.

TeaMeBasil · 09/07/2020 19:08

I think izzie just left didn't she? Ran away.

The scene were she got into Mias car was a dream I think, what she wanted to happen..she definitely wasn't there when they pulled up at the parents house

When I read the book I liked Mia however, I felt like this was lost in the series. I love Kerry Washington but there was too many weird facial expressions. Actually, maybe it’s more about me loving her as Olivia Pope and not being able to differentiate between the characters.

I thought the actresses who played the younger versions of Elena And Mia were amazing particularly Mia.

I was really looking for reward to seeing the completed artworks of each of the Richardson’s that Mia left in the house. So that was disappointing.

Overall, I liked it and I felt incredibly angry at points. Book was better!

Ooh, just finished this!

I thought the depiction of awkward not-meaning-to-be-racist-but-racist white people was spot on, cringingly so. I didn't like how Elena changed over the later episodes though, I thought she was cartoonishly nasty/cruel and that it was not in keeping with the previous episodes. Mia did seem prickly, to say the least, but maybe that was understandable.

I did really enjoy it all though Smile

I've read the book and have nearly finished the series. I have a couple of minor questions. What was Izzy pointing to in her Christmas photo? Something on her shoes?
And what did Bill's credit card flimsy say?
I couldn't see either of them.
I am also an adoptive parent and our DC2's adoption was very on and off partly due to my two DCs birth mum having a new partner and everyone not being sure if he would be the change mum needed. They didn't live with us before the adoption was certain but we knew about them. It would have been very hard to see the DCs birth mum fail again as she had done in the past and went on to do again. But she is still our DCs' mum. It's just that I am too.

Izzy was giving her shoes the finger, albeit upside down. The credit card flimsy showed a receipt for an expensive dinner in New York with a lot of alcohol - the dinner Elena had with her old boyfriend.

I imagine it would have been hard viewing for an adoptive parent Flowers

AiryFairy1 · 19/08/2020 22:56

In the photo, Izzy was doing “the bird” and was why Elena was slicing her out of the Christmas photo.
And Bill’s CC statement showed the payment of the dinner Elena paid for when she visited her old boyfriend in NYC.
I read the book after watching the show - I enjoyed both but preferred the book as the ending was simpler and made more sense. The tv version ending was all over the place!
