Anyone watching?

I think the cross over between US and Norway works well, unlike other Scandi dramas where americans are shoe horned in.

Bit confused as they dont seem to be referring to series 1, 2, 3 etc., but I think that first 3 series are available on iPlayer (which mean the next one is 4!)

Oh I rather enjoyed Cardinal!
Looks like it's on Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC2 from June 3rd.

ElenadeClermont · 24/05/2020 18:55

DH and I loved Lykkeland. So sad it ended.

fussychica · 24/05/2020 19:36

The author has hopes for up to five season of Lykkeland. CV permitting I believe series 2 should be filmed soon.
Really loved this, will miss it but an currently watching House of Paper (money heist) Season 4 Spanish, Professor T ( Belgian) love them both.

flamegame · 24/05/2020 19:54

Oooh I’d love that - there’s lots of potential in the oil story. I agree that the Norwegian political players could’ve been a bit clearer but maybe that’ll develop.

WinterHoliday · 24/05/2020 20:53

I've just caught up with the final two episodes. I've really enjoyed it. That's great if there is to be another series.

So good. Have recommended to all friend’s.

BikeRunSki · 24/05/2020 22:12

Just watching this now!! My dad either in oil industry in the 1969s-80s (solicitor) and I’m a geologist. We have had in the oil industry in Stavanger.... so all in all finding it very intriguing.

Just finished - brilliant Star

stumbledin · 24/05/2020 23:29

Didn't realise it was wednesdays.

But sadly that must mean Montalbano junior will be on BBC4 for weeks.

Sad

Finished watching it last night. Really enjoyed it and so glad Anna ended up with the American guy. He was so much nicer than Christian (much better looking too!)

I hope there is a second series

Winniewonka · 30/05/2020 00:32

Stumbledin - as far as the music I recognised, I think it was in the right time frame of 1969-71. I had completely forgotten Roger Whitaker's 'New world in the morning' played at the end of one of the early episodes. It made me remember it from my childhood.

stumbledin · 30/05/2020 18:33

Hi Winniewonka - I am sure you are right about the music and also different countries didn't always have hits at the same time. And I suppose in a friendship group you also have favourites you play. I was in my rebellious stage then so into alternative music setting great store by not listening to popular hits! Blush So hadn't realised Me and Bobby McGee was a posthumus hit for Janis Joplin (according to google).

@Winniewonka Me and DH both commented about Roger Whitaker. I could remember all the words and yet know I haven't heard the song for years and years

AppleYumYum · 30/05/2020 19:56

I absolutely loved this, it was just what I needed to watch and get lost in. The innocence and socialism. I thought the actress who played Anna was perfect for that role, and the chemistry with the Texan man, yes that was lovely to watch develop.

I can't wait for another series.

AppleYumYum · 30/05/2020 19:58

Forgot to say, the son kept reminding me of Jared Kushner!

C33P0 · 03/06/2020 22:56

Glad there is a thread about this - just finished it and it's the best thing I've watched in ages. Loved Anna's character and how she connected all the different groups, and the chemistry between her and Jonathan was great. I wonder if in the next season she'll be conflicted about bigger changes to the local area, maybe will lead to a rift with Jonathan?

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/06/2020 22:26

We're binge watching this after Jonnie Walker recommending it on his radio 2 show on Sunday 👍
Loving it
We started watching Norwegian series after a cruise to Norway and falling in love with the country
First watched Occupied , then Twin ... what's next ?

stumbledin · 04/06/2020 23:20

Not sure if it was Norwegian but there was Wisting (there's a thread here somewhere). Crime. Grim.

Also Acquitted, also crime but more a family drama. Not as good as State of Happiness.

Dicte: Crime reporter - quite interesting if you dont find the main character irritating!

Lilyhammer which I hated but someone here thought was great.

Anyhow found this list: www.imdb.com/search/title/?countries=no&sort=moviemeter&title_type=tv_series

Dont think any I've watched match State of Happiness

Loved State of Happiness- the story, the acting and the music. Agree that RW was so good. Haven’t heard it for the longest time.

Doilooklikeatourist · 05/06/2020 22:21

Just finished watching
Thanks so much for that list @stumbledin, just need to find one on SkyBox sets or catch up tv ( until then I'll watch Gardeners World )

AppleYumYum · 07/04/2022 16:36

I so loved this series. I started at the beginning again and have watched it several times.

I think Series 2 has been released in Norway, not sure when it will turn up here though. Hopefully soon!
