Discovered this pure gem late the other night and am addicted. It has some extremely subtle very funny moments but for me it's very interesting observing Haridi Jews getting on with their daily lives. As a jew but non observant myself there are lots of elements that I recognise from growing up however this is a group that are very far removed from.what I know. Wonderful characters and acting. Fwiw you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy it so dont be put off. Highly recommended Smile

This is about the Haredi community in London but the pictures look exactly like scenes from Shtisel, the way the women dress and even the furniture in the rooms. The community seem to have things under control in terms of self-help.

I absolutely loved shtisel and was so sad when I finished it and had no more to watch.
I found lots of it fascinating and paused quite a few times to google things.
I hope they make season 3 soon and we can see what they're all up to now.

I grew up in the next area along from Stamford hill which is referenced in the link in the post above and remember being fascinated watching these people who I had no idea who they were just going about their daily business. So watching this felt like a tiny insight to their lives and customs although I do know it was a drama series.
As a pp says, no violence or sex just great viewing.

Feeling a bit bereft having just finished Shtisel.

I also started watching this to fill a post-Unorthodox hole, but this is much better. I love that it's a normal family drama, and they aren't caricatures but just people living in an unusual community.

My god, Michael Aloni is an absolute dreamboat. The chemistry between him and Elisheva in S1 is palpable. And Giti has such an interesting story and character arc. I am thrilled that there is a S3 in the works but almost disappointed at the same time as I thought the ending for both father and son was perfect.

Absolutely loving this! DP as well and he tends to prefer documentary type stuff or comedies. I think it is because it is so interesting learning about a different culture/way of life and also there is such gentle humour in the interactions between the characters. We are up to episode 5 of series 2

I have seen unorthodox, one of us and most of shtisel and I have enjoyed them all. Unorthodox was my favourite though. As a result I have read unorthodox and exodus by Deborah feldman which I enjoyed, cut me loose by leah Vincent, all who do not return by shulum seen and becoming eve by abby Stein. Fascinating but sad books.

Loved, loved, loved Shtisel - I rate it as one of the best things I have ever seen along with After Life.
I was gutted when I got to the end.
Nothing happens but everything happens, it was fascinating.
