Can somebody explain the ending of Normal People to me

Ive just binge watched it and it just seemed to end very abruptly with no closure.

If you've read the book is the ending any different ie do we get more of a sense pf what would happen between them going forward.

Or were we suppose to draw our own conclusions?

I thought it was brilliant and the ending perfect! Loved it!

I thought it was beautifully done and much more realistic than some sort of 'getting married at 21 and happy ever after' ending, which wouldnt ring true (for me, anyway). I liked the way they had both matured and truly loved each other enough to go their separate ways and there was a realostic sense of not knowing what the future may hold. I genuinely dont think there will ever be a book 2 or series 2.

I would have expected M to want to follow C to New York. It didn’t ring true to me that she was happy there without C- no loving family, no real friends to speak of and no job?
