Anyone else watched this 4 part series? Thought it wonderful and so interesting. It's about someone who set up a school in India for the "untouchables" in India. The children boarded at the school from the age of 4 to 18 and came from the poorest most illiterate families. Twenty four children taken each year - only one child in the family so as to help as many families as possible. These children grew to become doctors, lawyers , engineers..
What a wonderful story.

Let me know what you think! It showed also the difficulties the children faced as they grew older to try and negotiate their two very different worlds (they went home twice a year) and the difficulties with family relationships as their world grew and expanded whilst their families remained "stuck" in their deeply embedded customs e.g. wanting to marry the daughter off at 14 to a much older uncle

I have just finished watching Daughters of Destiny. It was very interesting and great to see these girls were given a chance to leave behind the grinding poverty of their communities.

It would be a wonderful day if the caste system was abolished.

I watched it a couple of years ago, so my memory might be a bit rusty. It’s an excellent, and thought-provoking documentary. People who talk about how much pressure kids in the U.K. are under with exams, etc, really need to watch this! I remember being very conflicted between thinking what a great opportunity the school provided for the girls and feeling really uncomfortable about the huge amount of pressure they were under to pull their families out of poverty though their hard work and career choices. It seemed such a weight they had to carry on their shoulders.
