Getting started with GoT

I know ... we are probably the only people in the country who haven't watched it yet.

DH bought the first 3 DVDs.

Will it get our family through lockdown?

The DC (18 & 21) aren't keen - and I have to admit to being a bit sceptical. Not that keen on dragons TBH.

Yes it should. Majority of it brilliant.

But if you do get invested, you will feel robbed by the last series.

A fucking travesty in all respects.

RuffleCrow · 01/04/2020 20:22

I think this is the perfect time to start it. As long as you have a strong stomach for graphic violence and sex (and increasingly poor dialogue!) I can't guarantee it will get you all the way through lockdown but it will certainly be an escape to somewhere worse (which may make you feel relieved we're 'only' up against a virus rather than humans being shitty to each other). Good luck.

Shangrilalala · 01/04/2020 20:25

Oh do go for it! DH cajoled me into watching it after New Year last year. I was hooked and ended up bingeing on it, rushing to get there in time to watch the final (ultimately disappointing but occasionally brilliant) season.

How wonderful to have it all ahead of you. Some astounding moments. You will enjoy, I guarantee.

Windyatthebeach · 01/04/2020 20:27

Def would not be watching it with my dc - adult or not...

Shock
VashtaNerada · 01/04/2020 20:29

I was so sceptical but I got really into it! It’s a great one to binge watch. Lots of sex though! Just in case you’re likely to be embarrassed in front of DC.

UntamedWisteria · 01/04/2020 20:30

Haha, I think the DC are most worried about watching the sex bits in the company of their parents.

The violence should be OK - we've done Breaking Bad.

Don't watch with the DC. Honestly there are some scenes which you just cannot watch with your children.

Deffo watch though. Be prepared to be blown away and extremely pissed off.

GOT is the only show that has made me leave a room, shout at the TV and whoop for joy.

RuffleCrow · 01/04/2020 20:45

Yeah, i must admit i watched it in my 30s and kept thinking it's not something I would have been able handle watching at 18. I think we need a new certficate for shows like GoT. Maybe 25?

UntamedWisteria · 01/04/2020 20:47

Really? That bad?

UntamedWisteria · 01/04/2020 20:49

We have watched Sex Education together and it was OK.

I loved it but there’s not only sex and violence, there’s sexual violence aplenty. Just to make you aware.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 01/04/2020 20:55

The sex and violence isn’t that graphic if you’ve seen programmes like True Blood/Hannibal/Spartacus like I had. It’s brilliant for a while and then the most frustrating programme you’ll ever watch. The music and cinematography is consistently brilliant throughout

Tonz · 01/04/2020 20:56

I didn't fancy it at all but dh talked me into watching the 1st episode and I was hooked. The characters were so good I found myself rooting for the good and the bad. Great for a binge watch as one finishes you can't wait to see what happens next
