TV shows with lovely views of the Mediterranean

I’m really craving soothing programmes showing me the Mediterranean - the beautiful sea, little cobbled streets, lovely gardens and verandas, rustic olive groves or dusty roads with chickens wandering about, anything like that.

I don’t really mind whether it’s a documentary or fiction, as long as it’s nothing with arguments or drama or tension. All about the soothing content right now!

Anyone have any recommendations?

Probably not what your after but bbc has reruns of the clive james travel series from the 80s. It's very funny

Not a TV show but I watched the film Call Me By Your Name the other day and it made me long to move abroad.

Set in rustic Italy, breakfast with coffee outside every morning, jump on your bike to go to the lake for a swim. Bliss. Great film too.

Letters to Juliet is similar, lovely Italian locations

Inspector Montalbano is a detective show set in Italy, more like Midsommer murders so not too heavy. At least that's what I remember of it.
It used to be on the BBC iplayer.

Oh thank you so much! These all sound brilliant. Can’t wait to stuck into a bit of escapism.

Definitely Montalbano!

If you don't mind Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, The Trip is lovely as they travel through different places.

HazelnutRaspberryRoulade · 19/03/2020 08:49

Yes we watched an episode of The Trip in Spain last night, that’s what got me thinking!

The Durrells, if it's still on Netflix.

BringMeTea · 19/03/2020 10:36

Julia Bradbury does Greek Islands. Not actual name but you get the gist. Very relaxing.

HazelnutRaspberryRoulade · 19/03/2020 11:49

Ooh yes, I love the Gerald Durrell books, great suggestion. And I caught a bit of one of the Julia Bradbury programmes a few weeks ago, that’s just the sort of thing I’m after, thank you!

The Trip to Greece is on BBC and has gorgeous scenery. Also love Mamma Mia for that sort of thing.

Have you seen The Talented Mr Ripley? The scenes in Italy are amazing and it stars the divine Jude Law. He does meet an untimely end ouch but what cinematography Grin

I loved the recent Julia Bradbury in Greece series and there was another series where she bought a tiny house and did it up , local materials and local tradesmen .

ItsGoingTibiaK · 20/03/2020 21:02

I sometimes YouTube episodes of Holiday from the 90s just to hear the amazing Paul Hardcastle theme tune fade into Jill Dando talking to us from a Greek beach.

I think I'll be doing more of that in the coming weeks.

purrswhileheeats · 20/03/2020 21:15

@Leflic you've just reminded me of that Ab Fab episode when Patsy and Edina went to France 😂

Twigletgirl27 · 20/03/2020 21:17

I heard on the radio this morning that Ainsley Harriott has a Mediterranean cookery programme starting this Sunday morning on TV. Bet there'll be lots of shots of blue sea!

HazelnutRaspberryRoulade · 20/03/2020 21:38

Haha I just can’t think of anything better than Ainsley Harriott in the Mediterranean. What a combo.

Thank you so much for all these amazing suggestions, I’m going to write up a lovely list of things to watch and escape into this weekend. Smile

I think some of the Rick Stein food travel shows are based around the Mediterranean
