The Repair Shop new series on BBC1 tonight at 8:00.
For those of you who've not seen it, people bring in cherished family items for renovation by a team of (fantastically experienced) experts.
Anything from Teddies to flying jackets, clocks and furniture turn up.
My favourite feel-good show.

I was a bit confused by the plate too, I'm sure I've seen it before. But I hadn't seen the vibraphone. I was so disappointed that it wasn't a new episode too, I'd been looking forward to it all week

I love this programme, I like how it seems more natural and not put into a predictable template or formula. My job is slightly similar to some of the crafts people on there and whilst i love what they do i think how pressurised i would feel if it was bring filmed!!

I agree with you all. Also, once they've repaired the item they buff it up to almost showroom perfect.

In a previous series, they did wonders with an old fountain pen. I love it that they can repair any thing from a fountain pen to an old compass, an old leather chair or brief case. An old electronic barbers pole, old china dishes, the 1930's toy bus, the list goes on and on.

The reaction from the owner of the item is just priceless. (Can't help but wonder if that's improved the monetary valuation as well as the restoration being for free. I accept sentimental value means everything sometimes.)

I don't think they really need the presenter bloke either and he doesn't need to be posing in a leather apron.

However, the expert repairers to their thing of playing to their strengths while the presenter just floats around interjecting and chiming in. Basically the experts don't present and the presenter doesn't fix things.

Love this programme it feels so tranquil and some of the items and stories are lovely. Although sometimes I think the guest is not grateful enough and I don’t know how but I’ve never noticed the leather apron!

Love this show so much! It's a brilliant opportunity to show my kids what true job satisfaction looks like. And the craftspersonship is outstanding.

I don't like the presenter chappie at all, tho a friend knew him from a previous renovation programme she'd watched. His forte was painting a classic chair purple with one pink leg, or something similarShock However, someone has to order all the stock the repairers need, so on that basis alone I'll give him a pass.

Love the soothing voiceover. And I have a secret crush on Steve Fletcher. Smile The saddest one was the restoration of a rocking horse, The husband had done previous work on it and hand-written something under the saddle and dated it. The husband died young and the family wanted the horse fully restored. The Repair Shop did a cracking job but then they lifted up the saddle and they had preserved the husband's note. I've got tears in my eyes just writing this. Brilliant programme.

I love Steve too. There was one episode where he said he was using his grandfather's screwdriver and when he was using it it felt like holding his grandfather's hand. He said it so matter of factly, he wasn't saying it for effect, it made me well up.
If I was choosing a new family (my own are perfect btw, but if I had to) I would have Steve as my dad and Will as my big brother.

@notchickenagain - I remember that one. Susie got very upset because she'd lost her husband to cancer too.

I read an article about Jay Blade that was really eye opening in how he worked with the police to build youth race relations, opened a club to teach disaffected youths skills etc. It was really interesting.

Elderflower14 · 25/04/2020 20:07

I love Jay Blades... Love the programme... I persuaded ds2 who has learning difficulties to watch it and he loves it too.
Would love to see JB on SCD.

Why have they stopped this series after 5 episodes?

Noworrieshere · 01/05/2020 18:37

Do you think all the rest are repeats? I feel cheated

iklboo · 01/05/2020 19:52

According to IMDB there's at least two new ones. Unless they've not been filmed due to CV19?

iklboo · 08/05/2020 11:07

I hadn't seen this week's one. I think it was on while we were on holiday last year and it dropped off our radar. Someone must've have been chopping onions.....

SecondaryBurnzzz · 21/05/2020 22:59

This is my favourite programme! Just wondered if the ladies washed that massive teddy? It looked a bit grim to me when it came in. I love ‘ the barn of tears‘ !

Oblomov20 · 30/05/2020 08:29

Love it. Isn't it near Petworth? Can you go? Dh might like it if we made a day of it, had lunch etc?
