In bed I'll do watching daytime tv , unusually for me.
And now Pointless is on...and I don't get it. They practically give you the answer, it's so slow, does it go anywhere? Shall I carry on watching or does it just limp on?
And the presenter, Alexander Armstrong is a really talented actor and comedian- what is he doing on this show?
I just feel I'm missing something, it's so dull!

No, it doesn't go anywhere. And yes it's incredibly slow, some of the exchanges are painful to watch. We tend to pause it on the opening round, make a brew / go to the toilet / kill time, and then we can fast-forward some of the more excruciating segments. And yet we still watch it ... go figure ...

Moscovium anyone?

ellenanora5 · 17/03/2020 21:41

God it's one of the most painful quiz shows out there, but only because of the presenters, they drag it out for 45 minutes with awful chatter between the two of them and Alexander has to repeat all the answers once he's read them out "I'll read that again for you" no stop shut up they heard it the first time.

So like EggysMom I pause at the beginning and can ff then because even though I've just complained about it I quite like the idea of it.

I'm confusing myself now Confused

Alexander reads things out twice for viewers who have problems with their vision and can't rely on looking at a screen to help them.

Richard Osman has problems with his sight so maybe he suggested that's how it's done.

I like it for the relationship between the presenters and indeed with the contestants - it's great the way they gently take the piss without ever humiliating anyone, and at times it's hilarious. But they do need to change AA's script.

I don't think I can sit through it again. It's just so slow!

Spend the 45 minutes doing something useful and swith on at 6pm for Richard Osman's House of Games. Much more fun.

I used to watch it when it first started. It had another set of contestants and they didn't have the choice of answers, people had to get stuff from their own memory. It was therefore a bit nerdier.

I think when it became popular they added in the chat because people liked Richard Osman and the whole nerdiness of it. But presumably they decided to go for a "dummed down" version to appeal to a wider audience. I think it was ok bbc2 originally?

I don't watch it any more. Alexander Armstrong always seems bored to tears, as if they record loads a day.

It's always the way. Going for ratings.

In the original version I used to enjoy finding out what amazing depths of trivial knowledge people had. The "nerds" chance to shine.

JudyCoolibar · 19/03/2020 21:57

They don't necessarily give a choice of answers now - it's usually around 50/50.

It's done wonders for my knowledge of geography and the periodic table.
