Is it ok to watch this with him? I've not seen it and "think" it was recommended as parent plus teen viewing. I know he knows all the swear words and isn't naive but want anything way past his years! Or if this isn't ok what else can we watch. I cannot bear any more " hey guys " bloody YouTube videos and want us to watch together

sorry, it would be a no from me. its a 15, & regardless of the swear words i think its inappropriate. still better more age approp things he could watch with you

I watched several Friday Night Dinners for the first time recently; it was very, very funny, but there are comical sexual references. There are bits with buying condoms, and ongoing thread in one episode about one of the sons sleeping with someone and not calling her - that kind of thing.

DS is 10 and would only watch old Top Gears on Dave if I would let him, but we have found the Goes Wrong series on BBC1 equally enjoyable - he doesn't get all the jokes, but I think a 12 year old would like it.

FND isn’t overly explicit, nowhere near as bad as the Inbetweeners. My relatives of similar age watch FND and find it funny, wouldn’t repeat the more rude jokes, but do quote from the storyline/recurring jokes from it, eg “lovely bit of squirrel Jackie”!

All in all I reckon most 12/13 year olds have heard far worse on the playground and the comedy itself mainly focuses on jokey sibling rivalry/pranking one another and the weird next door neighbour, who’s a bit of a stereotypical character to be fair.

Yes no problem at all. Not The Inbetweeners but FND is fine!

Mixed reviews there then. I actually watched one and the swearing made me wince a bit but it's no worse than I know he'll hear at school - as some of you have said he loves the neighbour and the brotherly pranks - salt in drinks etc. It's a maybe for now!

My dd (12) and I watch it over and over we love it

selmabear · 27/01/2020 09:30

I dont see the problem with letting him watch fnd

Inforthelonghaul · 27/01/2020 09:33

My teens absolutely adore this and now frequently greet each other with ‘Shalom’. It’s very funny and the swearing is definitely no worse than teen norm.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/01/2020 09:34

I would, mine watched it at 13/14 with us and we all loved it.

When we watched Derry Girls I asked him about the swearing and he said it was just like school. Mine may have heard his Dad swearing in the car though.

We watched it together at that age, really enjoyed it.
