Anyone else watching this?!

Poor fella finally thought he had found love at 67 (kept a diary about how happy he was n everything) only to be poisoned by the bastard. Who then killed another person too.

Absolutely heart breaking.
Hope he never found out what was happening to him.

Felt so sorry for Peter. He was of an age were he was just so uncomfortable to be gay and when he reconciled to his sexuality he was groomed by Ben. He was absolutely a psychopath- could turn on the charm when needed.

I shouldn't have watched this before bed! I kept thinking about the photo of him with Ann looking in the mirror. She looked so terrified. Poor woman.

Also if he hadn't kept so much evidence he probably wouldn't have been charged . His ego tripped him up.

How sad this was. Poor man, poor woman, poor families. I'm anti death penalty but really, what good purpose can he ever serve? I've got a horrible feeling he'll be running prayer groups in prison and proving to the parole boarrd how he's been redeemed. Hopefully not.

What a chilling documentary. That man is an absolute psychopath.

What a sad sad story. A gentle, clever, intelligent and lonely man taken advantage of by a scheming and manipulative evil man.

I remember reading about this at the time of the trial, and that he had manipulated and groomed Anne into falling in love with him. I’m surprised nobody expressed concerns that a young, good looking clever man would want a sexual relationship with a man and then a woman who were SO much older. But then I think Fields targeted older people with no close friends or family.

The police were so diligent and so determined.

Horrifically, this creature was training to be a vicar. Imagine the missed opportunities. I watched the Jonestown documentary a couple of days ago, thank heavens this guy is under lock and key. He's very dangerous indeed.

36 years seems quite excessive when he was found not guilty of killing the lady and when what Arron Campbell did to Aleisha MacPhail was imo, way more evil and worse and he got 27 years reduced to 24 on appeal and if you ask me then Field should have gotten about 27 and Campbell 36, it’s so odd at time’s when you think of different sentences.

I think there were more charges @inappropriatefemale including fraud and burglary. I expect they were added to the murder sentence.

It’s perhaps complicated because the English and Scottish legal systems are separate entities and Campbell was technically still a child when he committed his hideous crime. Although i do think he should have got longer too.

In Scotland though then 16 is considered an adult is it not? or at least it used to be.

I just feel that whilst Field is a dangerous man then Campbell is far more dangerous, violent and evil.

I thought it was so sad that the Peter guy had spoken about Ben in his diary like it was an old fashioned love story, for a very intelligent man then he was quite naive, people automatically trust someone because they are a vicar in training, at the end of the day people are people and their careers don’t determine them to be any nicer or trustworthy than anybody else. What a horrific tale.

The program didn’t explain it all though, how did nobody know that Ben was seeing both Peter and Anne/Anna at the same time when they lived just doors away from each other?

I wonder what Bens background was like, I know his father was a minister but I wonder if his parents were abusive or was he just born that way?

I think psychopaths are born and Sociopaths are made so perhaps there was no abuse and he was just a wrong ‘in.

My husband went school And got the bus with him. He’s signed his leavers book 😐

He said he was very strange, he used to write in a note book in a weird code. He would constantly talk to himself too.

That video he took of Peter near the end really got to me. It felt almost pornographic, like some sort of fetish for Ben. Absolutely disgusting.

I think she had a hard time believing that her ‘perfect’ boyfriend wasn’t so perfect, and I don’t think you fall out of love that easily and he was perfect to her so it maybe took time.

He’s completely “normal”. Husband was in the same year as Ben and went together on the bus. He said he would talk to himself and write in code constantly 😩

I wonder if Fields parents are absolutely heartbroken over what their son has done and I wonder if they knew he was a psychopath.

It was interesting to hear that when BF was interviewed to work for the church/be a church carer (am I right?) then they suspected he was a psychopath with his answers! I’m surprised they let him in but not all psychopaths are bad but being a vicar is all about being understanding and having empathy so I am surprised at this.

It was horrible that he had written in his notebook that he would tell Peter he hated him, or words to that effect, as he was dying. I just hope Peter was out of it and didn't realise what was happening Sad

I don’t think he was let in to be a vicar? I think they turned it down. There’s a lot that wasn’t on the programme.

Yes I agree that Peter came across as naive

And I also didn't understand why the cause of death was alcoholism when it turns out there wasn't enough alcohol in him to kill him

I found a lot of the documentary very chilling when they got him out the coffin. I know we didn't see him but I saw enough to not like it. And those videos. It was horrible listening to Peter and knowing what was actually going on. I think it was just so jarring the innocence.

And he got found not guilty for the other one!
