Responsible Child BBC

I've just watched the BBC episode called Responsible Child, just wondering if anyone else had seen it?

For those who haven't, it's a drama episode based on a true story of a 12 year old boy being tried for murder under UK legislation.

Without giving too much away, he came from a domestic abusive home. I don't normally cry at TV stuff but that got me bad.

Does anyone actually agree with children over the age of 10 being held responsible for crimes as though they are an adult?

They didn't seem to go into his home circumstances and the fear he lived under at all. Someone (a barrister?) on the programme said an adult with a mental age of 13 wouldn't be tried in the same way so, no, it's not fair at all.

Yeah I noticed they didn't show the defence barristers questioning when the child gave evidence, only her closing statement. I must have missed that part about the adult with the mentality of a 13 year old. I truly hate our laws. There are so many hypocritical aspects to it. Makes me wonder if other countries are just as bad as ours.

There's another thread on this program which had a lot of debate on.
