@fallfallfall It began a while ago.....

www.insidehousing.co.uk/insight/insight/the-rise-and-fall-of-council-housing-56139

In the 1980s, residualisation may have been a partly unintended consequence of housing policies pursued with varying ideological intent

Since 2010, and more so since the return of single-party Conservative government in 2015, we’ve seen something further: welfarisation – ‘a conception of social housing as a very small, highly residualised sector catering only for the very poorest, and those with additional social “vulnerabilities”, on a short-term “ambulance” basis

Not only have i read about it in this book ive seen evidence on my own estate of the above in this post. So i know exactly where its leading and totally agree with you.

"BTW one thing that shocked me was the council of Westminster wanting to make it illegal to give food to homeless people - this was in 2010 and it didn't go through"

This actually made it into the script on Waking the Dead.

Trevor Eve says "didnt you know there are no homeless in Westminster now. They are making it illegal"

i cant remember the exact words but something along those lines.

essential transplants probably should be seriously prioritized. liver transplants for chronic alcoholics who do not give up alcohol or lung transplants for smokers etc. needs to be realistically reviewed as it is probably not ideal to allocate vital organs that are in short supply solely on "need". the interview seemed very biased on highlighting the flaws without reasonable explanation.
if people want a 1950's style hospital with long stays (long exposure to infection and long stretches of nutritionally poor food) then it will cost much much more. nothing wrong with discharge planning early on, so that most people plan accordingly. the nurse traumatized by discharge planning???
open heart patients are routinely discharged after 60-72 hours same with total hip replacements. not sure this is shocking, and it certainly isn't new news. nor it is bad practice, hospitals are cesspools of infection.

Sad

Can’t even say “bloody Tories” either as Labour we’re complicit in it all.

I don't really think of Tony Blair as a Labour politician. Even tax credits seem designed to allow companies to pay lower wages, benefiting the company as much, if not more, than the recipient.
