Is anyone watching? I'm fascinated.

I stopped watching half through the first episode because of the generated anticipation that SM is going remove more of her clothing. Shame it seems to be continuing. I had to check it was as I assumed Channel 4 not Channel 5 of old.

HedgeHogFoxBadger · 29/10/2019 22:14

I find it fascinating.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 30/10/2019 10:53

I loved the second episode, the women making toast was just lovely 😊

Scarlett comes across as such a nice person ,the whole family does tbh. There was no getting naked pressure this week.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 31/10/2019 14:30

I can’t believe no one is considering the impact of this programme on the tribe.
How have channel 4 persuaded them to agree? It’s damn sure not for altruistic reasons... what are they giving them? It’s exploitation pure and simple.
I like the Moffats - they’re nice people but channel 4 should be hanging their heads in shame at commissioning a programme that will have a long term impact on the tribe.

I can't read that article without subscription.

Everyone has their own opinion but i love it,I dont think its racist, .I love that we see how other cultures live day to day and in the end we re all the same,we want good times,we love our families and want to happy. Ithonk its great that we re learning about these wonderful people.

JustDanceAddict · 05/11/2019 21:41

Giving birth in silence - that is some feat.

sniffingthewax · 06/11/2019 12:44

My concern is the impact this might have on the Himba. I would assume that a lot of resources were used and the local landscape/grazing interrupted for the house build.

purpleme12 · 10/11/2019 10:53

How old is Ava?

NCTDN · 10/11/2019 22:32

I don't think they've taken advantage of the him a tribe. It's very balanced views in my opinion. Like Scarlet, it has made me question the need for all these material things.
How tough to choose which of your children goes to school.

I was quite shocked that the first born gets raised by the grandma and not the mum. Cos it didn't sound like they did it together they said the first born gets raised by the grandma then the child helps the grandma with everything

NCTDN · 10/11/2019 22:36

Great article @yearinyearout

That mum just accepted though that her first child is not raised by her. If that's their way of life then it's not an issue for them is it?

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 10/11/2019 22:59

Well yes but I was quite shocked by it

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 11/11/2019 08:18

I'm actually more shocked about how the kids do nothing in the Moffatt house. In my house I was doing chores to earn pocket money from about 8/9 - and so did most people I knew. My mum wasn't just slaving away while I sat on my phone the whole day!

purpleme12 · 11/11/2019 08:28

We did washing up in our house but not much more so I can't say I'm that surprised. Depends on the family

NCTDN · 11/11/2019 17:51

Yes I am truly shocked how little the sister does. She is in the most amazing place and sits watching the TV or is on her phone!

Just watched the final episode on catch up. It was lovely, it seems both sides really enjoyed the experience.

On a side note, I wonder what (if anything) would happen to a Himba child born with disabilities? A few posters said they knew the tribe well and it struck me that they need to be very physically able to get by.

TheReluctantCountess · 14/11/2019 13:43

I really enjoyed it. It was so interesting to see such a lifestyle which is so different to our own, and to see how happy they are. I love the laugh that one of the women had. I’m going to miss it.
