One twin gets amnesia and relies on the other for support with his memories

Wasn't going to stick with this as felt bored to start with, but the twist is something else. Shocking stuff.

If it wasn't real you'd say the story line was too crazy to believe.

100PercentThatBitch · 21/10/2019 22:12

@Bumply

The Twinsters film is also one of those to unreal to be true but is, but is decidedly more joyous than this sad tale

seen parts 1 & 2, still got 3 to go. part of me is dreading that part..

Heymummee · 22/10/2019 20:42

I watched this last night and it was very hard to watch the last part. Shocking story, I really enjoyed it though. Very well made film.

Legomadx2 · 22/10/2019 21:39

Just watched this. Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous.

My heart goes out to those poor men. Glad they have wives and families to look after them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/10/2019 15:45

I watched it yesterday, I actually felt physically sick.
Those poor boys.

PancakeAndKeith · 24/10/2019 18:53

Just watched this today and came to find a thread. Those poor boys.
I don’t blame the brother for trying to save him. Being able to forget all that is a gift.

100PercentThatBitch · 24/10/2019 19:22

At the same time, as much as Marcus' motives were completely understandable, once Alex began to realise, he deserved to know his own history however unpleasant

OP posts:
PancakeAndKeith · 24/10/2019 19:49

He did deserve to know but I completely understand the reasoning behind not telling him.
He gets the chance to begin again.

SavageBeauty73 · 24/10/2019 21:55

Watched it earlier. I did wonder if his memory loss was protection as well.

The mother was depraved. Poor men.

PancakeAndKeith · 26/10/2019 08:44

So I’ve been thinking about this.
Now I’m going to start by saying that I always want to start from a place of believing someone, and I’m not saying that I don’t believe them.
But, all this came out after the parents had died. We only know this on the word of one man. There is no other proof. They don’t mention that the father is not their father, nor do they mention that they have other siblings.

I really don’t want to be saying that I don’t believe them, but I am saying that they wouldn’t be the first people to write a book and make a film about abuse that never happened.

Jonnylooongpoo · 26/10/2019 09:50

Bloody hell @PancakeAndKeith that's a bit of a shitty thing to say.

It was things that pieced together that led Alex to ask his brother the question, it didn't just come out of nowhere.

I

PancakeAndKeith · 26/10/2019 09:54

I know it’s a shitty thing to say. I’m not saying I don’t believe him.

I guess it’s more of a thought experiment.
If he was of a mind to make this stuff up, convince his brother it happened, then write a book and make a film out of it then he could do because there is no one to say otherwise.

IM NOT SAYING THIS IS MADE UP OR THAT I DON’T BELIEVE IT.

Jonnylooongpoo · 26/10/2019 10:05

How would that explain the photos, the strange lack of emotion at his mother's death? It's a big jump to make.

I believe him, unequivocally. I would like to see some people prosecuted, I wonder if anyone is alive still? The 'Famous artist' maybe?

It didnt occur to me at all that it wasn't true.

There is a lot missing though, they went in holiday with friends' families, how did they make these friends, were the families part of it?
They had friends and girlfriends, did they not question why they slept in the shed, and had no key to their own house.
Schooling and the people there?
The £50 notes in weird places, that was never explained, was that payment for the abuse?
Marcus said repeatedly that he was the only one who could replace Alex's memories, but they had friends and Gfs and parents who surely could too?

I believe him, I do, but so much was unsaid, I don't mean details of the abuse, but the memories, the life, the putting Alex back together almost.
Marcus pretty much said he did it single handedly, but surely not?

I understand why @PancakeAndKeith is wondering.

It took me a few days to think anything other than horror at what happened, but then I've thought more about what clearly hasn't been told.

Doggodogington · 26/10/2019 22:55

I get where you are coming from pancake.
I don’t know what it is, I can’t put my finger on it, but I don’t find Marcus very honest. I found him quite manipulative of his brother. I think there is more than meets the eye with this documentary.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/10/2019 23:14

I do too.

TheGlaikitRambler · 27/10/2019 11:29

The story of how Marcus stopped the abuse seemed a bit "off" to me. Even Alex seemed incredulous at it.
I'd liked to have heard more about the hidden presents, the hidden money, the siblings - did they live in the house or in another shed?
Far too much was left unsaid, and too much on the telling of the actual abuse.

Hugsgalore · 08/11/2019 16:12

I read the book. I didn't watch the documentary.

They did have siblings. A brother and a sister. The younger brother was also abused. It was his seeing a therapist that made Alex begin to question why and what had happened.
Jack was not the twins father but he was the father of the other two.
Marcus and Alex's dad died when they were 3 weeks old in a car crash that Alex was also involved in. He had a head injury then too.
They met all of these families mainly through his mam. Her parties and such. Some of them knew thongs weren't right but they couldn't put their finger on what it was.
They also say that they have no proof that Jack knew about the abuse although he was abusive in his own way.
The sister was never abused.

SeaViewBliss · 09/11/2019 19:43

Just bumping this as I’ve just watched this and I am blown away.

It is so beautifully done. Heartbreaking and shocking. I don’t doubt it for a minute and I think it’s important not to hone in on what’s missing from the film. From what I’ve read, lots of the missing details are in their book.

ThatsMeInTheSpotlight · 12/11/2019 18:14

As I watched it, I remembered their story because I read an article when their book came out.

I couldn't work out the timeline. The series acted as though Alex was just finding out on screen what had happened but the book explained they'd been abused and passed round their mum's friends, and it predated the series.

scarecrowfeet · 16/11/2019 21:10

I think the 'friends' paid to abuse the boys. Hideous story.

The book does provide better context and explanations. The other brother was also sexually abused.
