TV series / shows to watch with 9 year old DD

Any recommendations please?

DD likes to snuggle up for half an hour while we watch something together on TV.

We've just spent the week watching the Julia Donaldson adaptations which we really enjoy. She knows I regularly watch something with her older brother after she has gone to bed and she'd like to do the same, I'm just struggling to come up with any ideas!

Horrible Histories
George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces
You’ve Been Framed
Downton Abbey

If you've got Netflix then we all loved Merlin. Also my 9 yr old son laughed non stop at Miranda.

Just add magic on Amazon prime.
Ghosts and horrible histories on bbc.

MapMyMum · 06/10/2019 21:44

Our 8yr old loves keeping up appearances and dads army, the silliness of it all really appeals to him. Also the goldbergs if you dont mind them hearing crap and oh balls said a lot.

MissBattleaxe · 06/10/2019 21:45

YY to Horrible Histories.

Smellslikebiscuits · 06/10/2019 21:45

Once upon a time on Netflix

Mine love just add magic on amazon prime. Extreme cake makers/ bake off type things and strictly. They also love the crystal maze

9yo DD likes old Poirot episodes if they’re not too gruesome (we discovered this by chance last Christmas), and Shakespeare and Hathaway.

She wants to be a private detective with a nice little car and frequent snacks, like Lu Shakespeare.

She also likes all of the yappy, annoying Nickelodeon pre-teen sitcoms but I have a low tolerance for watching those with her.

Oh yes def Bake Off.

And any of the teddy bear or soft toy fixing episodes of The Repair Shop.

iklboo · 06/10/2019 21:53

YY to Repair Shop. Amazing skills. DS loves it.

Monr0e · 06/10/2019 22:46

Ooh, some good ideas, thank you

I think horrible histories and bake will definitely appeal. Also once upon a time. Although she can have quite a short attention span!

Never heard of just add magic but will check that out. Not sure about Game of thrones though, no matter how heavily edited Grin

The InBESTigators on Netflix is very good. Well written and well acted kids' show... a rare thing!

64sNewName · 07/10/2019 00:19

Oh yeah, and the Inbestigators episodes are quite short I think? So that could work well for short attention spans

My son who is 8 has been watching Doris Day movies!
