Where are all the new autumn TV dramas?

Usually in September we have a lot of new television to look forward to.
This year there seems to be hardly anything?

Deep Water was disappointing and I'm not impressed by Sanditon.

I enjoy a range of genres, from period dramas to science fiction. Not a big fan of police/crime but will give most other things a try. I like a drama that is memorable or makes me think. I loved Years and Years.

Please can anyone suggest or recommend some ideas. I also have Netflix if you know of anything that has recently appeared on there.

Agreed. They went too early with Poldark I reckon...

The BBC has something called World on Fire, but I don't think it starts until the end of September.

I think this too.

Is The Apprentice back soon?

There is War of The Worlds adaptation on BBC & another drama called Serpent?

Then I guess The Capture (bbc1)would class as new autumn drama & The Confession for ItV.

Really I just want a nice period drama, perhaps with a bit of darkness to it, to watch at about 9 on a Sunday night...it can't be too much to ask!
I'm finding Sanditon a bit dull so it doesn't fit the bill...
I'm sure I saw a trailer for something about a Marie Antoinette-possibly with Helen Mirren in it? May have been on Sky....

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 16:54

There's an upcoming Sky drama about Catherine the Great, starring Helen Mirren; is that what you're thinking of?

There's also stuff coming in late Sept/Oct and later: a legal drama/comedy with Katherine Parkinson on the Beeb; His Dark Materials, also Beeb; The Crown in Nov (yay!); The Dublin Murders, based on Tana French's crime novels; and Temple, a Brit remake of a quite weird but good Norwegian drama about illegal doctoring, with Mark Strong, on Sky.

I need a life Grin

Thank you DarlingNikita
Some of those look interesting.

OMG there’s a series based on Tana French’s novels?! Can’t wait, I love them! Grin

I highly recommend State of the Union on BBC iPlayer with Rosamund Pike and Chris O'Dowd

Ironoaks · 14/09/2019 19:23

Thank you NurseButtercup
That list includes adaptations of two books I enjoyed, so hopefully they'll be good.

I could do with a trashy Fay Mellor drama which is unrealistic but an easy watch
I was hoping the second series of the split would be soon but i think its next year

"I highly recommend State of the Union on BBC iPlayer with Rosamund Pike and Chris O'Dowd"

Oh, it's awful. I've tried a few times because the premise is good, but it's just pretentious rubbish with no plot.

Do you mean Kay Mellor? If so, I'd love another series of In The Club, but I'm not sure there'll be any more. Sad

NurseButtercup · 22/09/2019 08:09

I've just found this, Criminal it's on Netflix. I haven't watched it yet read a review which describes it as Netflixs' version of Law and Order:

MinesaPinot · 23/09/2019 13:56

Judging by some of the trailers I've seen, I think it looks as though there is going to be some good stuff coming on.

I am particularly looking forward to the Catherine the Great series with Helen Mirren.

And after War & Peace and then Les Miserables, has anyone seen or got any info on whether the BBC are doing another big adaptation this year?

Grey7841 · 23/09/2019 15:23

covetingthepreciousthings yes, no wonder i couldnt find anything out when i googled

Ellmau · 27/09/2019 01:43

Isn't there a big Trollope adaptation coming? The Pallisers I think (his series of political novels).

Graphista · 03/10/2019 00:43

I'm in a habit now of mostly watching streaming which means I miss notifications of what's on "real" tv currently I've actually just come to browse telly addicts section to see what I might be missing...

But I don't think I am!

Is streaming killing real tv?

I've just finished watching person of interest (I missed the final season first time around and really wanted to see how they did that)

I'm now watching the good wife again as I also missed last season of that plus I want to watch the good fight

On "normal" telly I usually like good dramas like the above but also quiz shows (mastermind, only connect, uni challenge), documentaries (especially history ones), current affairs (though I'm out of the habit of these as I was finding it too stressful), the occasional sitcom though I'm quite fussy with these as I don't do silly or slapstick I err more to the sarcastic or observational. I should watch more panel shows really as that's more my thing, I love QI

SO what am I missing? Anything?
