Do Geoffrey Charles and Cecily get married?

I've googled and can't find the answer and I don't want to wait until the weekend to find out! Do they get married in the book?

This story is not in the books, it's one of the new made-up storylines for this new series? Not sure why the writer thinks she can do better than Winston Graham.

Viticulture · 20/08/2019 23:35

No. In the later books he isn't married to her, he marries someone else.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 20/08/2019 23:38

This whole Honduras-linked storyline is invented for this series. The writer researched Despard and wanted to bring him in and it all spiralled from there.

I think they've missed a trick by not including the 'Demelza defeats the serial killer' storyline from one of the later books.

Pinktulipsarethebest · 21/08/2019 07:24

Oh! I didn't realise it's not in the books. Thanks. Looks like the answer is no then.

Tbf, Demelza very much does not defeat the serial killer, and is very much in need of rescue! More interesting though.

MyOtherProfile · 22/08/2019 10:45

I just want to know how it all ends but I guess that's not in the books either Grin

I'm a bit fed up of how stressy every episode is and how many enemies Ross has. I just want to know it has a happy ending!

Viticulture · 22/08/2019 12:45

There is a happy ending in the later books. They are quite difficult, though. I would say the characters are a lot less lovable and make odd decisions. Perhaps it's more realistic. It's darker, imo and makes for uncomfortable reading. But there is some of the familiar lightness and silly plotlines, and seeing what happens to the next generation is of course fun. So far this latest series hasn't broken any of the future plotlines, so some of the outcomes for the finale should be fairly predictable.

Clowance, I'm guessing? Grin

My big problem with Clowance is that they bang on endlessly about her being such a clear-sighted, intelligent girl, but all the reader ever sees of her is her being dumb as shit about the first man she ever fancies.

None of the Poldark kids are raised with any sense though.

Rockbird · 22/08/2019 13:34

I haven't seen any of the latest series yet but am an avid Poldark fan. I always thought the junior Poldarks were dull as shite and a bit thick so nice. Mind you, so was Drake when he finally got Morwenna. Valentine and GC were much more interesting, as was Ursula looking like being but she was dumped by Winston Graham in favour of equally dull and annoying Bella. #rant

Rockbird · 22/08/2019 13:34

Ignore the 'so nice'. That was meant to be deleted!

Viticulture · 22/08/2019 15:13

Clowance, yeah. What a weird bloody story she had. Just depressing. Less said about her good for nothing husband the better. She would have been better off with George Warleggan!!

Valentine - total nut job. Wtf was that about with the monkey?

Jeremy - tedious boy, falls for tedious girl plus that inexplicable highway robbery..... oh yeah and him being some before his time engineering genius

Bella Poldark - there are no words really. World's greatest opera singer. Ok then. And what is it with all demelza related women choosing awful abusive partners? I include Ross in this.

They certainly had some diverse genetics between Ross and Demelza.

I do like George's new wife though, that's the kind of aristocrat I would be Grin

As for Ross and Demelza, bit of same old really, less involvement in the main plot. All I remember about Demelza is that she had headaches sometimes.

thecatsthecats · 22/08/2019 16:12

George, Harriet and Ursula were hands down my favourite characters from those books! I loved getting to their parts of the story.

No Clowance irresistably pulled crotch-first towards that twatbadger. No Jeremy mooning in a highly disturbing and pushy way after Cuby (how many times did she say no!). Bella is just BORING. None of them had any depth - we were just told what excellent people they were.

But George, Harriet, Ursula and a little of Valentine were endless fun.

thecatsthecats · 22/08/2019 16:13

Oh, though I did wish for more of the Enyses!

Rockbird · 22/08/2019 16:57

The Enyses are my favourite, I'm always saddened by the lack of them in the later books. WG really didn't know how to write happy marriages. And yes I love Harriet too. My eldest is named after her!

The scene where Ross goes to visit George when he is bedridden is gold!

Viticulture · 22/08/2019 18:37

Dwight, secret doctor to mad king george (hence his only real plotline this series) and discovering autism to boot. He is truly the Karl Kennedy of the era!

George Warleggan is great reading in later books. I have always loved his character.

Viticulture · 22/08/2019 18:41

Ooh and a special mention for the inclusion of an antisemitic trope related to Nathan Rothshild Confused

FiveFarthings · 22/08/2019 19:08

Am I the only one who couldn’t stand the books? Really could not get on with the style of prose, gave up halfway through the first one.

Have been loving the TV series though, with the exception of this latest one with the addition of Ned, who frankly is a bit of a twatbadger and completely grating (I am aware of what happens in the latest episode but won’t reveal it here in case it’s a spoiler for anyone). I was getting so sick of Ross mooning about after Ned like a one-sided bromance when Ned clearly did not give two fucks about staying out of trouble after Ross had got him out of prison in the first place!

lachenalia · 23/08/2019 15:41

Ned was unbelievably tedious , couldn't understand why Ross was so in awe of the twat . His sermonising got so bad I was really pleased when the hangman kicked away the stool , please God we can now get back to Cornwall and some real drama .

Viticulture · 23/08/2019 17:35

Ned was annoying. It would not have been so bad if it wasn't a repeating cycle over 6 episodes of ned being in trouble, rescued by ross, ross gets concerned he is out of control, ned seems to calm down. Ned starts to get mouthy again, friends warn ross it is bad, ross ignores them thinks he is fine, ned gets in trouble, ross rescues him, ross sees he was out of control and will keep a better eye on it this time, Ned calms down, ned gets mouthy, ross doesn't see it, warned by friends, ned gets in trouble....

Glad he is dead.
