It's shit. I'm actually stressed watching it. The mother's are just vile. Invading their son's lives, thinking they should be top priority. It's like they want to be in a relationship with them.

Weird and horrible.

Oh shame, this is on my list I was looking forward to it. I'll watch and report back!

OhioOhioOhio · 06/08/2019 11:09

I thought it was good. Laid back and easy watching. Reckon you forgot to collect a pinch of salt before you switched it on.

Whisky2014 · 06/08/2019 11:11

I'm still watching..not finished yet! I guess I'm on the bit where it now turns around the men engage more with their mums..

Haha nah I love an easy to watch film but these mothers are hideous.

It made me cringe and I only watched the first episode. It's very cheesy.

swingalongsidney · 06/08/2019 11:17

I had to turn it off when they were all singing in the car at the beginning. Horrendous Confused

OhioOhioOhio · 06/08/2019 12:06

Episode? I thought it was a film?

LoafofSellotape · 06/08/2019 12:58

It is a film.

Groovee · 06/08/2019 13:15

I fell asleep...

OhioOhioOhio · 06/08/2019 13:40

I fell asleep too.

Horehound · 07/08/2019 21:58

Yep, crap!

Banjodancer · 11/08/2019 23:57

I watched it today and really liked it! Why on earth shouldn't a mother expect a call on Mother's Day? And then I liked how your sympathies moved from the mothers to the sons and back. I like seeing "older" women in main roles and I also really liked that the actresses were all involved in directing it etc and although there were men in it they weren't the main thing iyswim.
I'm not at that stage yet and it really made me think about how I'd handle it when the time comes.

Banjodancer · 11/08/2019 23:58

So although I've obviously gone against the grain here Grin it does seem clear that most of you didn't actually watch the whole film!

Horehound · 12/08/2019 00:03

I watched it all. It's crap! Mother's can expect a phone call but it's ridiculous to pretend a son has sent flowers. It's entitled and selfish to just decide to go an encroach on their lives...no call, no thought for if they have plans. Who the hell thinks it's ok to turn up to a work party? Trying to guilt trip them etc. It's just toxic and if my mum did that id significantly reduce contact!

I hate it when writers and directors star in their own films. Tom cruise does it all the time..fuck off and let someone else have a job!

IWantMyHatBack · 12/08/2019 00:08

It's terrible. I watched it with a hangover (fairly severe, intelligence levels were affected) and I still thought it was a pile of bollocks

Banjodancer · 12/08/2019 06:39

The mothers are all portrayed as being significantly flawed, and having fucked things up with their children. So it's odd to criticise the film for showing them being selfish, that's kind of the point!

ihatethecold · 12/08/2019 07:23

I just thought it was a shame that 3 good actresses were reduced to such a dire film!
Terrible and cringeworthy.

carmellax · 12/08/2019 13:21

I didn't find it that funny either. Felicity Hoffman's character was very irritating. Try Rough Night or I Feel Pretty on Netflix both v funny in comparison

Horehound · 12/08/2019 14:06

Yeh rough night is good!

Sorry @Banjodancer looks like you're on your own...

impostersyndrome · 23/08/2019 04:29

I thought it predictable, but enjoyable nevertheless. Lessons to be learned as my own PFB leaves home Grin. The character whose son was gay though had very few redeeming features. Her poor long-suffering husband.

Did you know it’s based on a book set in the UK? I’ve ordered myself a copy, partly out of curiosity to see if the ridiculously prosperous setting is there in the original. (Whatever Makes You Happy by William Sutcliffe).

Banjodancer · 23/08/2019 07:47

impostersyndrome thanks for that, I'd no idea it was based on a book - Sutcliffe lives in Edinburgh so I imagine it was set in the UK, so probably read a bit differently!

impostersyndrome · 23/08/2019 10:18

Well, if you decide to get a copy, come back to this thread and tell you what you think. I'd be happy to report back after I've read it!

Whodo · 23/08/2019 17:15

I thought it was terrible too. Really cliched with some poor acting. I had high hopes being the widowed mother of a 25 year old son who lives in London.
