diddl you’re right it makes far more sense that Antony left because of more major issues than his vegetarian and animal rights stance.

LoafofSellotape · 01/06/2019 15:32

Also the Petrukhins had very little detectable Russian accents

Mrs P was British and Mr P had been here since he was a tiny child and made a point of saying he got rid of his Russian accent.

I assumed Anthony had been spying for the ussr and then defected!
I was also convinced, once keeley Hawes found him, that he was not Anthony, and that Keeley Hawes was delusional and the others just going along with it for her sake.

I do think Hannah told the scriptwriter deliberately so that he'd use it in his script - it was just after she'd said to her father 'what can I do to help' so I assumed she had worked out that this was something that might work.

LoafofSellotape · 01/06/2019 15:56

I thought she was delusional as well,I was stunned when it was actually him!

I did initially wonder.

Then when the father turned up & effectively kidnapped him!

I'm thinking that that was under the advice of Wallingham-he sure did seem to have a hold over him!

FreeYoHairin2019 · 01/06/2019 20:46

loafofsellotape that makes more sense re lack of Russian accents. I binged watch the whole series and seen to have missed that she was British and he had come to the UK when very young.

diddl · 01/06/2019 20:51

I thought that Samuel sounded very obviouly foreign.

StarlightToCasualMoths · 01/06/2019 23:28

Just finished it - I thought that her friend (the script writer) was going to turn out to be a spy.

Agree that the Anthony story line was very peculiar - when Wallingham came to the house and hugged him was that meant to be a sinister warning?

And Tesla confessing to Sacha seemed very odd and out of character. Also, if he was such a compassionate man why didn't he just tell the Shaws that their son was alive.

LoafofSellotape · 01/06/2019 23:33

Oooo I've just had a thought, was Wallington trying to recruit Anthony and that's why he went into hiding under the guise of vegetarianism?

@loafodsellotape - where is the house? I noticed earlier in the thread you said the house and gardens were open to the public on occasion.

Thank yoi

buggerthebotox · 02/06/2019 09:19

@loaf: I thought the same. I didn't get the vegetarianism idea. I thought Anthony had either been brainwashed or threatened.

I wondered what would have happened to him if he hadn't been found?

KH was great in this. She suited the role to a T.

Timothy Spall looks as though he's lost a shedload of weight.

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2019 09:24

That ties is with why the grandmother was so sympathetic and said she knew how he felt etc.

Timothy Spall has been a skinny minny for a long time now,he looked fab.

I don't like KH but she was fantastic in this imo!

Unless the the whole 'animals are going to take over the world' thing was just a metaphor for his dad's lot trying to gain power?

OP posts:
diddl · 02/06/2019 13:59

When Tezler "confessed" to Sascha, did we see pics & figures of animals that Antony had depicted in his drawing?

I like the idea of it representing his dad's lot taking over.

It was just assumed that Anthony would join their cause, wasn't it?

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2019 16:25

Another thought- was it Tesler who helped Anthony escape?

Greg Austin!!! Yay!!!

sonnybeaudelaire · 02/06/2019 21:35

I agree with some aspects of the storyline in the final episode being too far-fetched, but overall still very enjoyable and lots of great period detail. I loved the rockets and fear of nuclear war aspects.

I thought Esther would play a larger role at the end - the camera kept showing her lip reading the conversations in the office in earlier episodes, but perhaps she was just nosy!

StarlightToCasualMoths · 02/06/2019 22:18

Every time Hannah was at Esther's house, or out with her I was convinced she was going to be raped.

LoafofSellotape · 04/06/2019 13:14

I watched Gideon's Daughter the other night, I didn't really enjoy it. I'm not sure I understood what it was about tbh.

I'm half way through the first episode of Perfect Strangers ,more my cup of tea. Poliakoff uses so many of the the same people, doesn't he,same actors crop up in his dramas? Even the family archivist was the boss who dies of aids in Close my Eyes. Timothy Spall is about 4 stone heavier in this than in Summer of Rockets! Keely Hawkes and her husband Mattew... Somebody both in his dramas and of course lively blonde actress in Shooting the Past and Perfect Strangers, Lynsey someone?

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 04/06/2019 13:17

Lyndsay Duncan and Matthew Macfadden (phwoar!)

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 04/06/2019 15:54

Oh and Toby Stephens is in PS and also SOR.

All these actors must whoop with glee when they hear Poliakoff is writing a new drama😂

Interesting that the theme of PS and Close My Eyes is the same.

OP posts:
diddl · 04/06/2019 20:53

I think that PS was the first thing I saw MM in.

And the lovely (imo)JJFeild as well.

I think the boy who plays young Daniel was Prince John in The Lost Prince.

SoonerthanIthought · 04/06/2019 21:13

Did we find out who tore down the posters and why? Could it just have been vandalism?
