i watched this when it was first on, looks like they're repeating it. If you feel up to another...

gubbsywubbsy · 14/05/2019 19:35

The woman on that programmes lives near me .. apparently she is better in case anyone is interested.

DaisyDreaming · 15/05/2019 17:12

I’m surprised how many people think the program was good and Louis dealt with it well

ElenadeClermont · 15/05/2019 18:07

I did not think Louise dealt well with it, but it is a subject that must not be swept under the carpet.

gubbsywubbsy · 15/05/2019 19:26

I like Louis and thought he did a great job .. he is there to observe , that's the nature of his journalism .. all his other programmes are the same

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 20:25

He didn't just observe though ,he was very dismissive of the Spanish lady even after she said she was uncomfortable.

The more I think about it,the crosser I feel actually, it's a psychiatrist ward and cameras/journalists have no place there and as I said earlier I'm surprised staff allowed it.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't have made a programme about it.

BentBaastard · 15/05/2019 20:25

@DaisyDreaming what was your opinion?

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 20:28

**psychiatric

gubbsywubbsy · 15/05/2019 20:32

I don't think he was dismissive at all, I think he was gentle with her and was asking what she wanted to do .

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 20:45

The way I saw it was that she had probably said before filming that she didn't want to talk on camera but husband obviously did so when Louis started talking to her she said she wasn't comfortable and was confused. She shouldn't have been filmed full stop imo while so ill.

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 20:49

Where they were filming was where I used to sit and have a cuppa with ds in his pram 😊 It was odd seeing her hold the baby ,we were always told to use a pram in case we got dizzy from the shed loads of drugs we were taking.

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 20:57

**holding the baby while standing

Fairylea · 15/05/2019 20:59

I felt a bit uncomfortable watching the bits with the Spanish lady as she didn’t seem happy being filmed but given that she seemed to make such a good recovery later in the programme I would imagine they made sure she was happy for the parts with her featured in them to be shown and I imagine she must have said yes.

I think programmes like this are really important.

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 21:06

The Spanish lady was sectioned (I think) and having a psychotic episode, she wasn't able to give proper consent to filming, that's what made me uncomfortable. She obviously gave the go ahead when she was better but the point was she shouldn't have been filmed in the first place. How on earth did the staff think that was appropriate care for a patient?

puppylovebaby · 15/05/2019 21:22

What channel?

KaliforniaDreamz · 15/05/2019 21:26

Bethlam i totally understand that this is hard for you to watch but i wonder if Spanish lady decided afterwards that it is important people see how dissasociated women can become. Pychosis is rather short lived and rarer than PPD.
I think it was a tough call on the professionals part to allow her to be filmed but i suppose they came down on the side of science/progress ?
x

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 21:33

It wasn't science though ,it was journalism and as lovely as Louis is he's a journalist getting a story, she wasn't being filmed for psychology students or doctors.

I see it as the same as being filmed when you are under general anesthetic and not being told until afterwards. Yes,some people might give consent afterwards but the point is the consent should be given beforehand.

Yeah,it's been a bit hard since watching this tbh.

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 21:34

I do absolutely think there needs to be more MBU's and more awareness but imo this wasn't the way to go about it.

KaliforniaDreamz · 15/05/2019 21:38

I hear you xx

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 21:42

Thanks Smile

Britneysfa · 15/05/2019 21:48

Im all for portrayal of post partum illness including psychosis

We are much better at discussing ppd but lots of people arent even aware of the other end of the spectrum, let alone what it might look like and feel like.

Hearing people talk about it doesnt have the same affect as seeing it.

I think its really beneficial for people not just to see what post partum psychosis looks like but also someone coming out the other side.

BethlamBabe · 15/05/2019 21:51

I can't get over how smart it is now, it was awful 80's blue wallpaper and carpet in the main room and dark carpet everywhere else. There was a smoking room too which was rank and every time someone opened the door clouds of smoke wafted out,bet that's gone now Grin

StylishMummy · 15/05/2019 21:58
