Anyone watching?

I was really dissapointed in Rhys as I was hoping he'd stay out of prison. I felt sorry for his mum and girlfriend.

They've all re offended. It made depressing watching. Especially the guy who blamed himself (so did his Dad) for his little brothers death. I wish we'd found out if he'd ever been offered Counselling. That bit broke me tbh.

I was so disappointed in Andrew. He showed the most promise, you could tell her was really trying. He really put himself out there at the art class talking to people and now seems to have relapsed.

Glad Jason is getting help

staceysmith · 23/04/2019 00:19

Really awful viewing
Surely there is something better society could do rather than this ?
I don't know what.
Just seemed so so hard
How on earth are they meant to get jobs.
Why wasn't Rhys trained in a trade eg brick laying so he could leave and be self employed etc
Doesn't make sense

caperplips · 23/04/2019 15:04

I found this programme so unbearably sad. So many broken lives, people who ha fallen through the cracks of life.

I really was willing them on to make a go of it - especially Andrew and Gemma and the guy who was suicidal. Tough lives, each and every one of them.

I really, really felt for Rhys's mother and family. How helpless you would feel to have a kid go off the rails like that.

It's so hard to know how to make the overall societal change to make it easier for people to really make a go of things once released.

Having them endlessly hanging around in hotels and hostels doesn't seem like the best option..

Fruityfruitcake · 23/04/2019 23:39

I thought it was so sad how matter of fact Gemma was about putting her stuff in a wheely bin and dragging it to the park. Just awful.

dottypotter · 24/04/2019 14:20

what a load of dross why are these people on TV what have they done?

Metalhead · 24/04/2019 22:07

I can’t say that I had a lot of sympathy for Rhys or Kimberley. He had so many chances and blew them all, and she just didn’t seem to even try and take some responsibility for her behaviour.

I hope Gemma, Jason and Andrew make a go if it in the long run, although it seems doubtful.

CSIblonde · 25/04/2019 18:15

I think the main message I got out of it was that the same as when you leave a mental health unit, after prison, the temporary aftercare that would make a difference disappears. Getting out can be scary & overwhelming: a temporary mentor to offer help with housing, jobseeking, addressing mental health/addiction issues would make a huge difference I think. The probation officer bit is 10mins of checking in, not what's really needed.

SinglePringle · 25/04/2019 18:19

I thought it was a brilliantly made programme. Really thoughtful and sensitive to those poor people. Just nothing for them on the outside. So sad.

purpleme12 · 25/04/2019 18:32

I felt proud of Andrew trying so hard.
And trying at hard at talking to people at the art class. The people he was talking to weren't at interested in him I didn't think. Such a shame

ilovesooty · 26/04/2019 09:56

@dottypotter

Not entertaining enough for you? Hmm

ElasticFirecracker · 26/04/2019 10:18

I found this series heartbreaking. None of them had skills or really knew about havany

ElasticFirecracker · 26/04/2019 10:26

Sorry. ...or any framework to help them llive a more successful life.

Gemma certainly has determination and I was delighted she got accommodation and I just hope she can cope with life and stay safe.

Andrew -- he knew he had to be doing things and fill his life with constructive activity but lacked the coping skills when things got tough, and resorted to booze.

Rhys -- it was so sad, he had a relationship which seemed to be stabilising, but I don't think he felt he was enough on his own and started dealing drugs to have money for his new family.

Jason, he was very sad and it was good he found the scheme where he could work in his problems (can't remember details of what this was).

It's all very sad that we let this happen.

ElasticFirecracker · 26/04/2019 10:27

Sorry again, none of that should have been crossed out.
