The 'interesting bit' diversion in property/human interest shows

You know. On Coast where they visit the herring smoking business. On Escape to the Country when someone's restored a water mill. On A Place in the Sun where they visit the unattainable millionaire property.

Get. On. With. It. I don't care. I'm not watching for that.

On the plus side: kettle putting on time, chance for a quick lie down. Always a bonus.

It's just me isn't it? Confused

I watch these on catch up to fast forward through. I presume each episode has to be same length. Some of the property views/people taking part are more interesting than others so they need more or less filler.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/03/2019 22:11

Yes!! The ancient cake history lessons bit in The GBBO - or did they remove that bit when it changed channels? Hmm

ovenchips · 13/03/2019 22:12

Nope it's not just you. It's the snooze segment. What the fast forward button was invented for in my house. Pure filler.

friendlyflicka · 15/03/2019 10:54

Really really boring when all your want is property viewings

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/03/2019 16:09

Oh I like "the history bit"!

I learned about stoolball watching Escape to the Country, which came in handy at a pub quiz.

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2019 18:04

All those shows are boring and had their day.

I LOVED the history bits. And yes, C4 did remove them. Boo hiss. They still have them on the Sewing Bee, though. Long may they reign.

IHeartKingThistle · 17/03/2019 13:47

I miss the old cake bits!

AlessandroVasectomi · 17/03/2019 14:08

What gets me is that the presenters have to have a go. It might be an ancient pottery and the presenter says “Oooh - can I have a go?”, as though these ancient crafts are a dead cinch. And then he or she completely screws it up and everybody puts on embarrassed laughs and we move on to the next house.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 17/03/2019 16:07

YES. the Place In The Sun one annoys me most.
Yes the millionaire has a massive house with a view and pool. Which would be impressive ordinarily ...

but Jasmine or Jonny has just shown a couple a house with four bedrooms one with an ensuing, an attic they can convert, a wine cellar in the basement, views across the acres of land that come with it , usually a pool and a gite for a “negotiable” 150k. Which is way more exciting.

Hate the filler bits. Escape to the country couple looking at Norfolk go to see a man who started his own brewery cos that’s what the bloke wants to do. Cue a looooooong tour round the brewery, scripted questions thrown in, the obligatory beer tasting and then to viewing houses to which we never find out if they actually move there Hmm

soulrider · 17/03/2019 20:38

We watched some great property shows whilst in the US, and they're always bought one of the 3 houses that had featured and they visited afterward. None of this 'Mike and Sue are still thinking about exactly where in Devon they want to be'

CSIblonde · 17/03/2019 20:54

I prefer the US show Buying & Selling. Their house gets a refurb by the builder brother to get a decent price: & they offer on one of at least 3houses they're shown by the brother whose an estate agent.

ConfCall · 22/03/2019 23:23

I watched a few eps of Escape to the Country and in none of them did the viewer find out what happened. Anti climax.

The "filler" segments weren't too bad imo.

Cushellekoala · 31/03/2019 23:38

I'm way too impatient to watch whole programmes because usuallg the interesting part is only about 25-30% of the time allowed. ETTC is my background programme to watch when I'm ironing. I watch on catch up and fast forward the sheep shearing/glass blowing/visiting an old castle type bits. I also fast forward the training/irrelevant padding on strictly, greatest dancer etc.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 01/04/2019 07:34

I always record these so I can skip through the chit chat 'Janet needs a quilting room, Kenneth needs a double garage to tinker with his classic cars, they need 4 bedrooms so family to come and stay, entertaining space, big fenced in garden for the dogs and somewhere to keep chickens' and the local interest bollocks. I just want to see the houses.

I also love Alistair's scarves.

Husband: I’m a freelance lizard breeder

Wife: I’m a part time basket weaver

Husband: Our budget is £1.5mil

SeventhWave · 01/04/2019 16:32

I quite like the in-between bits.

Gets on my nerves when the couple dislike a house that is a veritable palace compared with mine.
