I think she spells it, Kathryn?!? (not sure)

NKF · 04/07/2007 22:18

She does.

homemama · 04/07/2007 22:20

I actually think the headline, 'menopausaly (sp) fat' is a fairly dispicable way to discribe anyone.

homemama · 04/07/2007 22:21

describe obv

homemama · 04/07/2007 22:23

despicable !!! lol

Tinker · 04/07/2007 22:48

Isn't Euan like his dad - same mannerisms?

ScummyMummy · 04/07/2007 22:49

Yes. He was like a cross between his dad and prince william I thought.

Tinker · 04/07/2007 22:52

Oh, nicer than William surely

homemama · 04/07/2007 22:55

I wonder if any of the four of them will go into politics?
Euan was quite dishy I thought. Very eloquent, quite a catch as my mother would say.

ScummyMummy · 04/07/2007 22:56

Yes, yes- he seemed like a v nice young man. But a certain generational similarity, I thought. Young people that age seem so sensible I always think. I hope (a little bit of not too unsafe) rebellion has set in by the time mine reach young adulthood.

Tinker · 04/07/2007 22:58

Yes, all from same polite-boy mould. Leo looks very cute and a Tony-alike as well. Didn't see much of other son (name?)

ScummyMummy · 04/07/2007 23:00

Nicholas. Maybe he is the rebel and refused to participate?

homemama · 04/07/2007 23:09

I think Euan is the eldest though is brother is a little taller than he.

ScummyMummy · 04/07/2007 23:23

Cherie amazingly hard working, I thought. Not much downtime at all what with job and charity stuff and parenting and lecturing.

lilolilmanchester · 04/07/2007 23:27

That's what I thought ScummyMummy, don't know how she does it all, even with staff etc. Wonder if she's a MNetter in her "spare" time?!

RosemaryWoodhouse · 05/07/2007 05:01

Winning over people is her job - fat lot of good you are as a QC if the jury ends up hating you!

I've met her and talked at length with her
She is a cracking warm and funny woman and I've an awful lot of time for her.
More than for eh old man anyway

Freckle · 05/07/2007 20:09

I didn't see the programme, but I've always thought Cherie was/is a terrific person. She comes from a working class background, single parent family (think dad buggered off quite early on) and worked bloody hard to get to be a QC.

I think the role of PM's spouse is always going to be a poisoned challis. Dennis just drank his way through Maggie's time in office - oh and played golf. I'm sure that this role was never really in her game plan but she has obviously supported Tone throughout his career.

As to the lack of judgement over the flats, well we all make mistakes sometimes, but ours aren't made in the full glare of a media just waiting for a reason to attack and maul.

trippleshot · 05/07/2007 20:10

There was a terrible media rumour concerning Kathryn, an alledged suicide attempt, a blackmailing media tycoon and a referendum on the Euro. Referendum on the Euro never happened, so probably a load of crap.

What really hacks me off about the media in these situations - same as with Clintons - is the undercurrent of 'she's not attractive enough to be with him'

Whatever your politics, surely we would all want the leaders to have a massive intellect. Personally it seems pretty clear to me that Clinton, Blair et al married someone whose intellect matched their own (in Bush case not sure he would a) know what intellect was b) know how to spell it or c) find someone intellectually on his level....) If we expect them to be so clever, surely it is a bit alarming to criticise them for not choosing the dim but pretty photogenic floozy?

I think (unfortunately) that although Mrs Brown has had a good ride with the press so far (esp with deserved sympathy), the red tops will be gunning for her pretty soon too (because pathetic twerps like Piers Morgan think it is good sport).

Sorry, I think I have to go and do something else as this post sounds right up itself!

Howdydoody · 05/07/2007 20:46

I thought she came across really well, changed my mind about her and quite like her
Only thing she let herself down on i felt was not answering about whether it was her draw as PMs wife that people paid to hear her speak and not just that she was a QC. As tbh very few outside of her social/work crowd would of heard of her if not for Tone

trippleshot · 05/07/2007 20:48

Piers Morgan loves Sarah Brown, if you believe his autobiography - he claims to have an excellent relationship with the Browns. Anyway he's now unemployed so unlikely to be in a position to say anything about her that will have any impact. The key difference between the two is that Sarah is a SAHM while Cherie continued working while in no.10, something she was clearly judged for.

Yep, changed my mind a bit too. Always quite liked her, but with caveats. Think she came across as warm and v hard working.
