I was wondering if there might be a thread about this programme on here
It was really difficult not to be judgmental watching this....I mean, SO many partners - and the guy who said he never used condoms and asked to be shown how to put them on
. On a personal note it seemed SO unfair that none of them tested positive for anything despite their lifestyle, yet there are those like me who have so little sex yet still catch something that is actually bloody difficult to catch
Ok...rant over!
@DustyMcDustbuster, yes - it is true that there is an antibiotic resistant strain of gonorrhea emerging. and yes, I hope they bring pregnancy risk into it - takes 2 to tango!
I think they have started this programme with some quite extreme characters, to show that whatever a clinic sees/hears, they will not be judgmental, and they truly have seen it all before. This then encourages anyone who thinks they might be judged or are embarrassed, to realise there is worse out there, and they will then go to get tested.
However I do hope the programme goes on to show less extreme cases. I'd like to see others like myself go to a clinic - perhaps a middle aged couple, both divorced and in a new relationship? Or a young couple who have committed to each other, perhaps in a first relationship and want to know about contraception. Or 2 guys in their first relationship. Or those who are sexually active going for a regular check up. Yes, anal is more of a thing nowadays between heteros I think, so info on it is good, but that story was rather too sensationalised.
Hopefully they will show those who do test positive for something and explain/demystify the treatment involved.
I do like the people working in the clinic - especially the empathetic attitude shown by the consultant (Dr Naomi) to the red haired girl. This show that clinics will address the mental stuff as well as the physical, which can be so important.
