Yes, that's what I thought, paolo.

There's one born every minute, eh?

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 22:12

The woman is the boss of a relative (can't give away more than that, she was telling us all week to watch this tonight) I thought she came across as an utter muppet. Most people would chew their own arms off to have P&K house hunt for them, these idiots gave them a false budget and area then buggered off and found a house themselves. Would love to know how much money she is on though

C'mon P&K do some "real" searches, couple with 2 kids on 20K a year need a family home!

paolosgirl · 27/06/2007 22:12

Love it!! Their neighbours will probably turn out to be the local drug dealers - they're the only ones who can afford half a mill!

Aitch · 27/06/2007 22:12

not that there's anything wrong with eaky of course, but at that price...

paolosgirl · 27/06/2007 22:13

I agree, Kitty. I'd love it if more of these programmes featured more realistic budgets.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 22:21

paolosgirl and aitch - EK was out of our price range would love to know what all the people who can afford 500K new houses do for a living

Aitch · 27/06/2007 22:28

lol, i'm quite sure it's out of mine too. we live in a flat.

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:04

we live in a flat, too. a dinky one with no period features and the 'wow' factor is that there are many pubs in the vicinity.

and it's . . . (lowers voice) rented.

there's no way K&P could ever hunt for anything for families like us - the £20K variety - unless someone's got a wheelie bin to sell .

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 23:10

don't worry expat we got a 3 bed house but that's only because it's miles from Edinburgh and is in a rough area (we hope will be up and coming one day)

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 23:12

when we moved in we didn't have a wheelie bin and the binmen refused to collect our rubbish so I phoned the council who charged us £28 for a bin (we would have got it free if it were a council house)

there you go expat you could buy one each if they are going at £28

Twinklemegan · 27/06/2007 23:14

Yes, what DO all these people do for a living? They usually seem like complete idiots so how they earn enough to afford these amounts god only knows. I forgot this was on - hope it'll be repeated.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 23:16

ol sweetkitty did you post on here about the move? there was someone a while back who said something along the lines of 'we'll be able to get something really nice because we've got a lot ofequity in our house in england' and everyone up here went 'er...' i'm afraid i pmsl.

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:17

I don't care anymore, sweet.

I find it all a big larf because, like Twinkle, I always wonder what exactly nuggets like this gal get PAID when they're such zeros in the upstairs.

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:18

WHY do people still think it's cheap here, though?

the wages are circling the bowl and the prices have blown the pipes and are heading for the stratosphere.

seb1 · 27/06/2007 23:20

I don't think K&P like our offers over syatem.

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:20

Also, I have lived in a really bad area.

Anyone seen the film 'Trainspotting'? Yes, well, we lived there for a few years.

And I'd rather rent forever, hell, I'd rather live in a tent if that's the only place we can afford to buy.

That was more depressing than a divorce combined with a bad rebound relationship, alcohol dependency and being a pack+/day smoker.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 23:20

I wish it were me aitch ha ha ha, no we ended up selling our flat in London for peanuts as it was either that or go bankrupt (long story) and just managed to hang onto this house but it took every penny we had (and some we didn't)

House prices up here have gone insane, whats the average household income for Scotland? I love it when people say my house has gone up 100K in 4 years but so has everywhere else so it makes no difference really.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 23:23

I like the actual street we love in but the town has a really bad rep and I'm always having to defend it.

I think we are all too obsessed with house ownership in this country, that with the selling off of council houses has really screwed up the housing stock in this country.

In my hometown in the middle of nowhere a ex council 2 bed terrace goes for o/o 90K, can't afford that on 20K a year.

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:23

It's only if you bought really cheap in the 90s that you make a killing, and even then.

Case: my ILs.

Bought house for £17,000 in 1990.

Can sell it for about £225,000 - ex HA in very poor condition BUT extremely good locale (Trinity/Inverleith),

Yet, believe it or not, this will not buy them a two-bed ground floor flat (they live with their grown, disabled son) in the same area (MIL arthritic, FIL severe diabetes and heart condition).

So there they stay!

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:25

Yes, people here at too obsessed with ownership to the point where many compromise their quality of life and the limited time they have here in order to be slaves to a bank.

I spent two years in France and every day I am so glad I did.

seb1 · 27/06/2007 23:28

They say it costs £20,000 to move with stamp duty, fees etc, it doesn't make for a very mobile labour market, a (wrong) move for work could be a very expensive mistake.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2007 23:31

true expat but whats the choice when private renting is more expensive than a mortgage and you could be thrown out anytime and decent council houses are as rare as hens teeth?

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 23:33

Private renting ISN'T cheaper than a mortgage, though, at least not here.

TBH, if we can't work something out here in the next couple of years, we will have no choice but to leave.

you know the tories sold off the council house stock specifically to fuck the unions? people don't act collectively if they have something (ie a little patch of ground) to lose. keith joseph knew that, no worries, he was a very clever old cunt.
