Anyone see it? I was 18 when it happened so can remember the debate in the media about defending your own home etc (although I was more interested in getting drunk, going to university and having fun to pay much attention to the news).

I thought it was really well done and I went from thinking at the start that he was just scared and defending himself to thinking he wasn't quite so innocent. And then at the end Shock - he has no remorse whatsoever! What a horrible man.

I think it's far more complex than was he right or wrong. His attitude at the end was shocking but he does have a paranoid personality disorder and I'm pretty sure he also has ASD. He did himself no favours with that bit at the end though.

I agree it was a case which was very far from the traditional 'innocent victim slain by evil murderer' scenario and I don't think he should have been found guilty of murder. To me, murder is premeditated and, even though he had a gun and had, perhaps jokingly said that he was going to shoot the next person to break into his house, I don't think you can premeditate the murder of a burglar.

I think I was just most shocked at how it panned out - I really can't have been paying much attention to the news in 1999/2000 as I remember the public being very much on his side and yet the drama gave a very different slant.

I like the fact they stuck to the police interviews although I guess there's always room for a bit of dramatic license.

I remember I moved up to East Anglia not long after he was convicted, the attitude towards him there was that he was almost s national hero. I couldn't really understand as he shot a boy in the back as he was running away from the house. That's murder.
