I am! I completely agree with the comments about squeezing pastoral care- it’s destroying so much Angry

Rachelover40 · 06/11/2018 21:17

Yes, missed first few minutes but have it on now.

HollowTalk · 06/11/2018 21:19

I really feel for teachers in this situation. They are trying to do their best and they see first hand what happens as a result.

Ah it’s fine- we get money for the ‘little extras’ don’t forget AngryAngryAngry

TheFirstOHN · 06/11/2018 21:33

I work in a state secondary school in a non-teaching role, supporting students with any physical or mental health issues. I am the first port of call for any student suffering from anxiety or having a panic attack.

The comment about spending all day fighting fires is accurate. In the urgent/important matrix, I am constantly dealing with the urgent quadrant, and there is less time for the important but non-urgent.

I used to work in the NHS (hospital wards and A&E) and it's a similar feeling. You just try to do the best you can.

HollowTalk · 06/11/2018 21:33

That's a hell of a lot, for one school to have to save £300,000 in one year! There's no way that can be in the interests of the pupils.

ASauvignonADay · 06/11/2018 21:34

It's so depressing. I wish every parent posting a teacher bashing post would have an understanding of how much pressure school staff are under right now.

HollowTalk · 06/11/2018 21:35

It was only recently when hundreds of headteachers went on a march to complain about all this - the government obviously took no notice whatsoever.

This is so depressing to watch. How has education lost its way so badly Sad
It’s becoming an impossible job

honeysucklejasmine · 06/11/2018 21:53

Proper depressing. I'm a teacher, but a SAHM right now. I want to go back to it, but this is just heartbreaking.

HollowTalk · 06/11/2018 21:54

The government should be right behind the teachers in schools and want fantastic outcomes for the children. They're our future - what a crazy way to prepare for that.

TheZeppo · 06/11/2018 21:55

Im so rooting for Chloe

TheZeppo · 06/11/2018 21:57

Yes, it is depressing. It’s changrd so much so quickly too. We ALL knew it would when MATs got their claws in. The government don’t care. They just care about money.

RubyViolet · 06/11/2018 21:58

The cuts are taking everything to the bare bones, decrepit schools riddled with asbestos in the ceiling ( shocking how many.) Overworked and underpaid teachers, understaffing to the point that safeguarding suffers. It’s grim out there, the kids are being totally let down. Yet people still vote for these people who don’t give a fig about state education.

honeysucklejasmine · 06/11/2018 21:58

£426000?!?!?!

Cauliflowersqueeze · 06/11/2018 22:00

It’s very depressing. And very accurate. Quite well made I think.

Felt really sorry for them with that graffiti.

HollowTalk · 06/11/2018 22:02

Loved it when that girl said she wanted to work for MI6!

OP posts:
starrynight19 · 06/11/2018 22:05

It’s going to take parents to realise what is happening to the education system and put pressure on the government.
How much more can give Sad

RolyRocks · 06/11/2018 22:06

Bet the CEO is on about £150,000 or higher in a role that isn’t that necessary but won’t be taking a pay cut anytime soon....

honeysucklejasmine · 06/11/2018 22:21

I was pleased they didn't go for a heart warming finish which would make people forget about the negatives.

Felt so sorry for the teacher being asked about his targets. They are impossible.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/11/2018 22:21

I am a governor in a Multi Academy Trust, it is horrendous trying to balance budgets. There just isn't enough money. Quite interesting for DH to watch, to get an insight how schools are run

Applesbananas · 06/11/2018 22:51

I’m a teacher. Thankfully my schools situation is slightly better than this but this is what we’ll be in a few years. It’s terrifying

Miscible · 06/11/2018 22:58

I'm glad the programme is focussed on a MAT: it makes it more difficult for the government to brush it all off by blaming everything on local authorities.

RubyViolet · 06/11/2018 22:59

I wonder how many of the current Cabinet Ministers children are in state education, there must be a few in no doubt ‘outstanding’ schools or Grammars. None of them l am sure have children in a school like Castle. They have no idea.

PawneeParksDept · 06/11/2018 23:11

I'm about halfway through and I'm finding it massively depressing.

It has made me think of the many many threads I've seen were an OP has stated that the local state comp/comps is simply not an option only to be lambasted by multiple posters, told they have to be lying, and basically accused of total snobbery, as well as the widely stated complete false statement that "a bright child will do well anywhere" that is massively bullshit.

Aye, because people really want to send their kids to schools that have broken windows, blocked sinks and no pastoral care if they have another choice open
