I'm on maternity leave with ds and I'm looking for boxsets I can watch with nearly five year old dd around. We have netflix and amazon prime plus I player etc. Just want something I can enjoy without it scarring dd!

Once upon a time is brilliant like fairytales for grown ups.

Fruitteatime · 23/10/2018 06:57

3boysandabump thanks, I've had a Google and it looks good but worried it might be too violent to have on when dd is around. Is it particularly graphic?

Got this from IMDB

The show does not feature scenes that focus in on gore and often violence is off screen, which keeps it at a more family friendly level. However, there are many characters, including main characters, who die. -- IMDb Parents' Guide: Once Upon a Time (2011–2018)

They also have the rating on as 15 which I'm surprised about. My kids were around when I was watching it from my eldest being about 1.

Modern Family.
Big Bang Theory.
Friends.

The Good Place

OpposableThumbs2 · 23/10/2018 08:03

How about all the David Attenborough series that are on iPlayer at the moment?

Thirtyrock39 · 23/10/2018 08:08

I'd avoid friends - we used to watch this a lot with the kids but they picked up on a lot of the adult themes-there's a lot of references to sex in it.
I don't think there's much other than the simpsons or things like strictly that work for both ages

Celebrity Hunted
The Crown

FinnJuhl · 23/10/2018 11:42

I thought my 6 year old would love Celebrity Hunted, but I watched the first episode last week, and it is very sweary, so maybe not...

We find lots of factual programmes are good for younger family viewing, like Saving Lives at Sea and Inside the Factory on iPlayer. Brain Games on Netflix is also good.

Ploppymoodypants · 23/10/2018 11:51

Oh my goodness, yes started watching friends again on Netflix and I always think of it as comfort television from my teenage years and early twenties. Harmless sitcom.
When I watched it With DD6 I couldn’t believe the sexual references and adult content, which took a lot of explaining. Funny how you seen things with different eyes as an adult.

Ticcinalong · 23/10/2018 21:31

Heartland if you like horses! Really safe family viewing and strangely addictive!!

FaithInfinity · 23/10/2018 22:47

I found Once Upon A Time quite intense! DD is 5 and I wouldn’t let her watch it yet.

We’ve just starting watching Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortuanate Events on Netflix, DD seems to be enjoying it - it’s dark but quite entertaining.

FiveGoMadInDorset I watched about 10 episodes of the Good Place yesterday, its great! Bit easier to watch things whilst dd is at school, there's not actually that much time after school so she watches her own TV for a bit and then we have it off. She's quite easily scared so although some of the suggestions are good for me, I'm not sure she'd cope with a series of unfortunate events or hunted. She does like nature shows and she quite likes catching up on Doctors with me! Thanks for all the suggestions.
