Started again last night. It still a bit awkward to watch as the rich family look at it as a jolly away from their normal life and the poor family are reminded if what they want be can't have. The families meet at the end in this series .

But I think the poorer family should be looking at it as a holiday really. I mean that's what it is! Brilliant if more comes out of it but it is a week at a lovely house with more money

CallMeRachel · 05/10/2018 10:33

I don't think the 'poor' families on this show are really all that poor tbh.

The woman on last nights show owns her own property and camper van.

The one last week was a blended family who had a lovely rental home, kids were well clothed etc.

I don't think the producers know what real poverty actually is.

Jakethekid · 05/10/2018 10:41

I watched this for the first time last night. The 'poorer' family owned their own flat and they had 150 pounds a week to spend. I don't think 150 a week is that poor surely? The other family had 1700 a week, that really shocked me.

When the young man chose the piece of beef for the beef Wellington and it cost 60 pounds I couldn't believe it!

purpleme12 · 05/10/2018 11:00

No they don't choose the poorest people. I know £60!!!! I couldn't spend that much on that no way!

southnownorth · 05/10/2018 13:44

It's not poor no. She is a homeowner and has £600 spare each month.

None of the people who have been on have ever that been poor, as in robbing Peter to pay Paul or using food banks.

costacoffeecup · 05/10/2018 13:58

The problem is the producers can only work with the people who volunteer to be on the show. So the poor and rich are maybe not as polarised as they could be, if the really rich or really poor wanted to be on the show.

purpleme12 · 05/10/2018 14:03

But they must be in the bottom 10 per cent still

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/10/2018 14:50

On planner

KatnissMellark · 05/10/2018 14:52

We had a card through our door to apply to go on this Hmm not sure we'd qualify having seen some of the disposable incomes they talk about...

Firstbornunicorn · 05/10/2018 20:01

I usually end up shouting at the TV about how not-poor the lower earning families are on this. I've stopped watching it for that reason.

Aroundtheworldandback · 05/10/2018 23:01

We also had a letter. Doubt the show has many takers. What child from the ‘poor’ family wants to go on national tv to elicit sympathy? Just bad tv anyway.

mumgointhroughtorture · 05/10/2018 23:07

I thought the rich people last night were lovely compared to some who are better off . Usually they are judgemental and make nasty comments about the poorer persons home / lifestyle. These just took it in their stride and enjoyed the experience , even learnt a few things too.
Both families were lovely and I hope they stayed in touch !

Getting a bit predictable now though where the rich family end up paying for something to improve the poor families life.

areyoubeingserviced · 06/10/2018 17:55

The poor people are definitely not what I would consider poor
On the last series there was a couple with a lovely three bedroomed rented home.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/10/2018 21:18

It still shocks me when they say they have £150 left a week and that’s the lowest 10% and poor

That’s me but wouldn’t say I’m poor. I have a good life. Holidays. Takeaways run a car etc

Lovely of rick family to pay for the course

Think the first family to do that was the rich lot who paid for a wheelchair

And again nice they met each other

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2018 13:45

Yes their definition of poor isn’t mine

lovelymummy2018 · 12/10/2018 21:38

Surprised the poor family had 3 kids when only one bedroom? Seems selfish

Also don't understand why mum didn't work? Just one ore schooler and she's get 30hr childcare. If she worked would easily be out of bottom 10% and hundreds better off per month

I know hardly anyone who is a SAHM anymore , if I was a SAHM we would be bottom 20% and my DH earns a lot (high high housing costs),

Also didn't understand why he is self employed if cannot get work? Maybe re train or publicise better ? Odd to be excited about business cards seems pretty obvious. Or am I missing something

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2018 20:01

I know I thought that. Fair enough they wanted a joint child but that would be two and doable in bunk beds / why then have a third child

The 2nd room must be quite large to have bunk beds and single bed in it

Also annoys me they swap with a family with diff number of children. Usually less in the rich family

Would have been good to see 3 children used to own bedrooms have to share space with siblings for a week

NamedyChangedy · 16/10/2018 23:05

This show is my guilty pleasure! I didn't find the last poor family particularly sympathetic, although I normally do. I think 3 children is a lot, especially if you don't have space for them and you're both under-employed.

bellsbuss · 17/10/2018 22:24

Wasn't the £150 a week before food, petrol , clothes etc ? I was shocked at the £60 for the beef too, we have a high income and still wouldn't spend that much.

bellsbuss · 17/10/2018 22:28

@NamedyChangedy i felt guilty as I didn't feel sympathetic towards them either. Found it hard to believe that a decorator didn't have any work, they are like gold dust normally and booked up months in advance. Thought the wife looked a bit smug at the pizza restaurant when the bill came.

LeftRightCentre · 17/10/2018 22:32

It started out as a good show, now it's just more misery wank.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2018 21:03

Just started watching and again swapping poor large family with rich small family

I want the rich kids to have to share a bedroom

I did find it really sad that the rich little Girl said her mum was too busy and the dad too old to play with her :(

Will carry on watching

purpleme12 · 19/10/2018 21:20

Yeah I thought that was a really cringeworthy moment when she said that

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2018 18:10

SEen it all

I found this episode quite revelling

That money doesn’t buy happiness. The rich wife reliesed this :(

But will she change her life /work

She works hard and had lots of money but doesn’t see her daughter much and missed her birthday as a ‘crisis’ at work 😢

She said the poor family had love and happiness or something Like that

Not sure how he poor dad owes £25k from estate agency business

That’s a lot !!!

purpleme12 · 26/10/2018 22:30

I can't find this on catch up for this week!
