Has anyone else finished this yet? Do we think he did it??

I think he did it, 100%. I think he slammed her head against the door frame (hence the lines of cuts) but cleaned it up? If she was holding his arms, trying to get his hands off her head/face, then she wouldn't have defensive wounds.

Can’t decide if he is guilty or not

But did anyone else notice the striking similarities between his oldest son and the oldest of the adopted daughters. They are surely brother and sister 🤭

PuppyMonkey · 01/08/2018 08:26

I have been obsessed with finding out more since I finished it. There are lots of other forums discussing bits which the programme decided to edit out (he married one of the production team for example Hmm). Also google “the owl theory.” Not covered in the show.

He totally did it. Some people don't think he did. Bizarre.

SummerWinter · 01/08/2018 09:02

He seemed so broken though?

The owl did it.

RageAgainstTheTagine · 01/08/2018 09:05

I think any emotion shown wasn't sadness for his guilt, rather sadness at the way he had ruined his kids lives iyswim. He had to look them in the eyes day after day, see how broken they were, and that it was his doing.

notanurse2017 · 01/08/2018 09:06

He did it.

Putinka · 01/08/2018 10:38

It's a really interesting case but there's a lot more to it than was shown in the Netflix documentary.

r/TheStaircase on Reddit and the BBC Beyond Reasonable Doubt podcasts are worth a read/listen.

I think he did kill Kathleen and it's the apparent long delay between her injuries and his 911 call that make me most suspicious.

Lightlover2018 · 01/08/2018 10:47

I'm sure he did it. And the earlier woman. I am also convinced he's the father of the older girl. He's a narcissist through and through (not that that in itself makes him a murderer). I watched a body language video on YouTube which was fascinating and confirmed his guilt in my eyes.

SummerWinter · 01/08/2018 11:07

It's the long delay that makes me think he's guilty too

I'd love to know more about Kathleen's daughter and why she changed sides so readily

If you liked the staircase another great one is “west cork” on audible
It’s great

Polly99 · 01/08/2018 13:59

I think he did it too. Things that clinched it for me are the 911 call - he doesn’t mention the blood, and says (unprompted) “she’s still breathing” which is both a lie and odd; the bloody footprint on the back of her trousers; the delay between her initial injury and the EMTs arriving.

ChoccyJules · 01/08/2018 14:05

I think he did it although owl theory is an interesting meander due to the wounds in her head.
For me it was the phone call, saying she was still breathing so as to make emergency services think it had just happened.
Then from there on nothing dissuaded me and the facts about the first woman at the bottom of a staircase with the same painting hanging there...well.
PS I haven’t watched this particular series, I listened to Beyond Reasonable Doubt and read around the topic.
