I Hate Love Island

There must be someone else who does too? I can't be the only one?

To think these morons are receiving air time and probably a lot of money for opening their legs and shagging people they've known for 3 days in front of the nation? To think there are teenagers and young girls watching thinking THIS is what relationships should be like, with shallow, air headed people who just fuck and chuck as soon as someone with better tits or a better six pack or more x rated Instagram pictures comes along?

I do admit after hearing about it everywhere I did attempt to tune in for the first time but after seeing girls cry over lads that don't give a shit about them and all the rejection and humiliation etc (they don't want a doctor with brains they'd rather have a narcissistic snake with a six pack) I just found it so depressing.

I can't believe so many intelligent people are into it.

Anyone else?!

So why watch it?

user764329056 · 30/06/2018 11:00

It’s vacuous crap

SoddingUnicorns · 30/06/2018 11:01

I’ve never watched it but have heard people talking about it. So far as I can work out it’s people wearing not very much, backbiting and shagging the whole time.

Safe to say I don’t get it.

Moonkissedlegs · 30/06/2018 11:07

Opening their legs? Hmm It takes two to tango you know, as they say.

Fairenuff · 30/06/2018 11:08

Haha, yes it is vacuous crap. We're not supposed to think otherwise are we?

It doesn't pretend to be anything else. These people are not held up as role models. They are all self obsessed and care about nothing except furthering their 'career'. There's a lot less shagging so far this year though.

If you don't take it seriously it's great to watch.

SgtFredColon · 30/06/2018 11:18

There’s hardly any shagging

TheQueef · 30/06/2018 11:24

It just doesn't appeal to me.

I don't get the attraction of watching people form couples for celebrity, I hated my late teens though so i blame that.

BonnieF · 30/06/2018 11:32

Try watching the World Cup instead, OP. It’s much, much more interesting than Love Island.

OK, I’ve never actually watched Love Island, but it’s a safe assumption.

RainyAfternoon · 30/06/2018 11:38

I am so with you OP. I find it hugely depressing that this is prime-time TV. Of course we all have the option whether to watch it or not. (I don't!) But the fact that this type of TV is not an acceptable part of our culture it's really sad for me.

We are currently overseas and due to return to the UK, but having had three years of a quieter lifestyle where in-your-face sex just isn't a thing, I am seriously questioning whether the UK is a nice environment for children anymore.

I know it's desperately uncool to say this, but I really don't understand why we glorify casual sex. Of course everyone can do what they want, but we seem to gloss over the fact that sex is inherently risky. There is no such thing as safe sex… Only safer sex - and the consequences of an STI or an unwanted pregnancy can be life changing. But shows like this only adds to the pressure on young people that everyone is doing it.

So there you go. I am obviously out of touch, and will probably be an embarrassment to my children. I wish there was some way to push back against this race to the bottom.

RainyAfternoon · 30/06/2018 11:39

*is now an acceptable

TheQueef · 30/06/2018 11:51

I like the occasional reality show, CBB especially.

This forced amour is just trashy.

I'm an auld mardy arse though.

Adviceplease360 · 30/06/2018 11:54

Rainy afternoon is spot on.

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2018 12:02

I saw it for the first time the other day because DS1 wanted to watch it. It was so boring. They were all so serious. Do any of them have a sense of humour?

Bekabeech · 30/06/2018 12:46

It's on ITV2 hardly a main channel. It's no worse than Keeping up with the Kardashian's etc.
The contestants earn their keep by promotions for the sponsors, wearing sponsors clothes and "parties" promoting sponsors products.
It is cheap TV.
The Islanders make money by "celebrity appearances" and their own YouTube channels etc.
If you aren't interested don't watch!
I'm bored by football but I don't complain about the World Cup even though it does cost a fortune.

NotANaturalBlonde · 30/06/2018 12:47

Bekabeech - I said I tuned in for half hour love. I don't watch it Grin

Wannabes, all wanting to become famous on the back of another bloody mind-numbing ‘reality’ show. Am with you Rainy, not every country has this type of popular culture where casual sex and fake bodies and faces are so normalised. Years ago we scoffed at a pouty photo, enhanced everything, but it’s so common now it’s become the norm and that’s sad

mizu · 30/06/2018 22:44

I have never watched it - although am partial to a bit of Made In Chelsea Grin what disturbs me is my year 7 and year 8 DDs coming back from school saying lots of their peers are watching it Shock

sw15007 · 30/06/2018 23:01

I think most western countries have very similar stuff on tv and the pouty look is all over the place but I'm not sure a lot of the 'youth' of today particularly aspire to it? Most young people I know just laugh at it and the people in it.
What countries have managed to escape it all? genuinely interested to know.

CoolCarrie · 01/07/2018 01:07

I haven’t watch it, but from what I have heard and read it sounds like crap.
Rainy, I know how you feel, you are spot on with your post, and it’s not just the likes of “Love “ island that are the problem, the soaps are just as bad now. It’s all the bed hopping and female characters not knowing who the father of their child is. Eastenders and Emmerdale used to be the worst culprits for that, but now Corrie has gone down the same road. I know they are soaps, but it’s the normalisation of unsafe behaviour that concerns me too.

happymummy12345 · 01/07/2018 01:20

If you hate it, don't watch it. There's plenty I hate on telly. I also don't post about programmes I hate on the telly, because I hate them and do not wish to discuss them.

happymummy12345 · 01/07/2018 01:24

looks forward to the next episode, and checks that my £20 official personalised love island water bottle is full and in the fridge

NotANaturalBlonde · 01/07/2018 13:19

The reason why I've posted even though it isn't something I watch or that appeals to me is because I find it very concerning and I wanted to see who agreed with me. Young girls are influenced by what they see on television and social media these days and to watch young men and women on TV treating each other like pieces of meat and having casual sex and then trading each other in based on how hot the next person is, is absolutely vile. Teenagers will view this and believe you have to draw your eyebrows on and get your tits done and basically sell yourself short to be seen as a valid human being. It's absolutely disgusting!

Sunflowersforever · 01/07/2018 13:48

It's total crap.

I love it Grin

Let's my brain switch off, and allows others to feel superior.... so we all win. Yeah!

starzig · 01/07/2018 13:57

Never seen it so can't say I hate it. Just ignore it if you know you hate it.

starzig · 01/07/2018 13:59

Parent of easily influenced children should be in control of what they watch. This is a parents job, not a telly companies job.
