Is anyone watching this. I am finding this man so irritating! I don't disagree with all his thinking, but I think this programme could have been so much better.

I'm annoyed cos I think it's a bit scaremongering and guilt tripping.

Some of the arguments are silly. Like criticising calpol for selling emotional benefits of using it - Well yes, take it and feel better is kind of the point.

Bit irresponsible.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 23/05/2018 21:39

I agree. He's coming across as somebody who's just had a baby so knows everything rather than a doctor. So irritating.

NellMangel · 23/05/2018 21:40

Wtf with the pink milk bottles. Talk about dumbing down.

IWantMyHatBack · 23/05/2018 21:42

Just came here looking for this post..

The woman who seems to go through a bottle of calpol a month - no, that's not bloody normal and it's not what the majority of people do. She's an absolute idiot.

There's nothing wrong with medicating a child that's in pain.

IWantMyHatBack · 23/05/2018 21:43

Man has new baby. Man is suddenly expert in all things.

Jackyjill6 · 23/05/2018 21:59

Exactly! This was totally a missed opportunity. It could have been an opportunity to properly examine the issues, but it comes through as pompous guilt tripping and I just want to tell him to f**k off.

It did get a bit better. Making the point about treating a child that's distressed with a fever, rather than just dosing because a child has a fever.

Mind you, mumsnet taught me a decade ago that you don't always need to medicare a fever because its just your body dealing with an infection. I think that point could have been made more.

raisedbyguineapigs · 23/05/2018 22:31

I agree it did get a bit better. I was always worried about seizures with a fever so I was surprised when the emergency doctor said it makes no difference. The meditation was interesting too but it seemed superficial somehow even though it was an hour long and only looked at two issues. Also I hardly give Calpol now my kids are older. When they were younger we did but nowhere near a bottle a month. I can't believe that womam was used as an example of how much Calpol a typical family use on one child!

Titsywoo · 30/05/2018 22:46

Did anyone watch the second episode? Jess seemed very likely to be on the autistic spectrum rather than depressed. I'm surprised noone has picked up on it!

DaisyDreaming · 31/05/2018 00:58

I liked the previous series and thought the first episode was interesting but as always dummed down for viewers! Made me sad that the boy described his medication as taking aaay the happy and him being himself and it making everything feel grey and not want to eat

DaisyDreaming · 31/05/2018 00:58

Would of loved them to go into what’s in caplpol
Compared to just disovable paracetamol

It's difficult emotionally even for a bloke to see their children in discomfort. I do limit off the shelf medicine that I can administer abiding by the manufacturers instructions. The mother of my children takes an opposite approach and believes in tanking them up to the limited. That's irresponsible and not letting the children's own immune systems learn how to tackle things like viruses. It's a difficult balance between not enough and too much. It's not Calpol that destroys the virus but the bodies own natural defence mechanisms. As said it's hard to see ones children incapacitated and when they have peak moments of energy they don't rest but use it up in play delaying recovery.

Some of the other comments I've read are a bit shallow and most likely not representative of the intelligence and knowledge of those who wrote them. Their emotions probably got the better of themselves as it's said judgement is impeded by such things.
