Do you think he did it?

I am very suspicious of a man who would take on an alcoholic and the ration her alcohol. It's very controlling. And he is so odd.

Psychedelicsheep the police did that so as to ultimately help him. With no inpatient treatment available otherwise, they would have had to simply release him and he could have killed someone. They knew once in custody he would get access to help.

sweetboykit · 27/06/2018 18:26

Ginger1982, that's what I thought too. I felt so sorry for him as he looked so ill.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 27/06/2018 18:51

Thanks purple

Clutterbugsmum · 27/06/2018 20:45

Psychedelicsheep The police didn't go after him, they did they so he could the help he needed. And unfortunately the only way to get properly assessed was to get him in to the relative 'safe' environment of prison.

I felt towards the end of the programme the police were not doing 'police work' they were doing every thing in their power to get him some where safe.

You had one police officer trying to force the mental health 'care' team into a safe place but they wouldn't. Another was pleading with the family to put into writing about his behaviour so they could use a evidence to get him help he needed.

All the police that dealt with him (and lets face they knew him and his family and how he had behaved prior) with under standing and the knowledge that he was having some sort of mental break.

PsychedelicSheep · 27/06/2018 20:55

I did consider that might be a factor but I don't think it came across well.

Frith1975 · 27/06/2018 23:00

Another interesting episode.

I did blurt out “paranoid schizophrenia” as soon as I saw his eyes, poor chap. And poor Mum.

melodybirds · 28/06/2018 00:28

Literally unbelievable that the mental health team and cps would have released him. The mental health team assessed him sane for interview and didn't want to section him in the first place. If you can't be sectioned for stabbing your mum because of evil spirits then ffs.

Police did so well. I have to wonder how many other cases the person has been left to carry out more crime.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 28/06/2018 00:52

yy poor guy

don't forget though he was part of an organised crime gang

Weezol · 28/06/2018 01:00

The current post on MentalHealthCop's blog refers to this kind of situation: mentalhealthcop.wordpress.com

Anyone watch this week's? So grim. I can't believe that awful guy who spoke to the man abusing his son didn't serve any time in jail.

Ugh. It seems so widespread, I want them all to be locked up forever even though that's not possible.

purpleme12 · 13/07/2018 23:58

Missed this week's and it wasn't in catch up when I checked a couple of days ago!

Pemba · 14/07/2018 04:33

Yes I had put that episode (8?) on my planner for the repeat, but they replaced it with a repeat of episode 4. And it isn't on All 4 either. Must be for legal reasons?

But I do think it's not really fair that people's interrogations etc. are on TV for our entertainment, and the suspects have no choice in the matter. Just because the police station they are in happens to be chosen by the TV crew. Especially not fair if they are later not charged or found innocent. Like the guy in the first episode (was it?) who was suspected of doing something to his alcoholic girlfriend, but it was later found to be suicide. I am surprised it is allowed to happen, really.

SeekingClosure · 14/07/2018 11:46

Pemba I am sure that innocent people are only shown if they agree to be. Have you noticed how some of the people featured have blurred faces? They didn't give permission to be shown. And the man you mention who was suspected of killing his gf clearly worked with the program makers and appeared willingly, as he was shown talking in his own home.

SeekingClosure · 14/07/2018 11:54

This article explains who is shown, if they consent etc www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-06-19/24-hours-in-police-custody-behind-the-scenes-of-the-fly-on-the-wall-documentary/amp/

PaddysMarket · 14/07/2018 12:05

This weeks episode was horrifying!

The man who was having chats with the dad claiming to have abused his son...please tell me that that person would have received a police visit too. I actually said to DH if that man featured in tonights episode isn't in prison then I hope he is living in fear after tonight because the images he had been looking were absolutely vile. And then at the end he didn't serve any jail time Angry!

pickleville · 14/07/2018 13:49

And the guy who was caught by the vigilantes trying to meet up with a 13 year old who tried to maintain it was all innocent! At least he did serve some time in jail. Truly horrifying though.

Eenymeeny123 · 14/07/2018 14:20

I actually felt sick to my stomach watching it but couldn't turn it off. It was horrendous, fair play to the police officers who have to go through the evidence. I was also shocked at the sentence he got and I hope to God the man abusing his son was caught. It was truly grim viewing.

Pemba · 14/07/2018 15:02

Thanks for the article link, Seeking , that's really interesting. So the guilty have no right to anonymity. I wonder how much footage they have to scrap though, if someone has charges dropped/found not guilty? I am amazed at the innocent ones who happily appear, why do they want to have such a stressful time of their lives on public record like that?

Mind you, I am always amazed at the number of people who want to appear on any kind of reality TV. I am sure I never would. For one thing, you have no control over how the film makers choose to edit footage in order to present whatever angle they decide on.

PsychedelicSheep · 14/07/2018 17:08

I think they said at the beginning of the program they had arrested and/or charged the man abusing his son and that's how the guy featured was a person of interest to them, off the back of that investigation

Sidge · 14/07/2018 22:03

That’s right, PsychedelicSheep, they’d swooped up that guy from investigating the dad who had sexually abused his own sons.

This week’s episode was grim. I do think it’s important to watch though, just to see how pernicious online grooming can be.

HattieAndHerBoy · 15/07/2018 10:14

I’m really confused. The episode I watched a few days ago concerned what appeared to be the trafficking of a young girl. It’s still ok the website as the latest episode bug after reading these posts I’m confused

tattychicken · 15/07/2018 12:57

There's another episode, series 7 episode 8, that was shown live on Monday evening but isn't available for viewing from the website or the app for some reason. Frustrating as I love the programme but never get to watch it live.

Roomba · 15/07/2018 14:23

I'm annoyed about that too! I missed the start of the episode the other night, so went onto 4od to catch up afterwards - no sign?!

HattieAndHerBoy · 15/07/2018 14:35

Thank you for the update.

I suspect there is a legal reason for the episode being missing.

purpleme12 · 16/07/2018 01:26

Yes it's very annoying
