Just that really. I’ve realised it’s actually quite a nice bonding activity, allows for a bit of chat and interaction, and most importantly gets them away from the phones/iPads for a bit!

Have you watched Lemony Snicket on Netflix?

What kinds of things do you like?

I watched the old Pride and Prejudice series on Netflix with dd.

We all watch anime together and liked Hunter X Hunter.

Everyone likes Brooklyn 99 as well. And Fresh Off The Boat.

Rainbowqueeen · 11/03/2018 11:20

The Good Place is popular in our house. Also Gilmour Girls

We also get into reality shows like TheVoice

Imfinehowareyou · 11/03/2018 11:22

Back in Time for Tea is fab (BBC2) for chatting as your DC will be amazed at you going "we used to have/eat/do that"!

Iloveteaandcake · 11/03/2018 11:26

Thanks.
Like drama, comedy, documentaries. (enjoy things like history)
Have watched lemony snicket with my dd and enjoyed it. Wasn’t really for my 15 year old DS though
Is the Goodplace on netflix
Looking for recs on regular tv channels or Netflix as that’s what we have

Yes we’ve just discovered back in time for tea and we all love it!!
Where can I catch the other ‘back in time’ series from?

Top Gear - Sunday night,

Big Bang Theory/Brooklyn 99/how I met your mother/the goldbergs - all popular with my teens and I don't mind watching either

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 11/03/2018 11:43

The Good Place is on Netflix and brilliant

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 11:46

Timeless on Netflix is great and suitable for that age group. History / time traveller based, so some interesting history discussions could result. But it's really fun too!

OutsideContextProblem · 11/03/2018 11:51

A lot of these are subject to your tolerance of sexual jokes in “family viewing”. Good Place and BBT have a fair amount, ditto Blackadder, QI and to a lesser extent Red Dwarf which I would otherwise recommend.

If you have a channel that shows Mythbusters repeats then that’s very good family viewing. Netflix have many series of Doctor Who.

OutsideContextProblem · 11/03/2018 11:53

If you can find a channel showing repeats Great British Bake-off is excellent family viewing - that’s why it gets the huge audiences it does.

And we all love Taskmaster - although it does have swearing.

BrownTurkey · 11/03/2018 11:55

We bond over Designated Survivor and Death in Paradise mainly.

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 12:13

Also, Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Arrow is a bit dark and gloomy.

WobblyLondoner · 11/03/2018 12:18

Good post. We've had some eye opening conversations prompted by the "Educating" series.

Bake off and other similar (pottery, sewing etc). He loves robot wars (I don't but try hard not to let it show).

The house through time was an unexpected hit.

stitchglitched · 11/03/2018 12:19

The Simpsons.

WobblyLondoner · 11/03/2018 12:20

Ps Will give back in time for tea a try.

Iloveteaandcake · 11/03/2018 12:36

Some really good ideas on here....
will definitely give Timelss a try
Which channel does the ‘Educating’ series come on?
Apologies, am not too familiar with what’s on tv generally. Wouldn’t have known about back in time for tea if it wasn’t for MN

WobblyLondoner · 11/03/2018 14:19

Ilovetea Educating is Channel 4 but we've been watching it via catch-up. I'm not sure when the next series is. Last on was Educating Greater Manchester (I think).

Floralnomad · 11/03/2018 14:25

I bought mine up watching sport so there is generally always something to be found , they both feign a pretty passable interest in cycling and the shorter versions of cricket although I’ve failed to get them excited by a test match yet .

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/03/2018 14:59

Anything quizzy like pointless, mastermind etc.
Lightweight crime eg NCIS
Natural history eg Blue Planet
Modern Family
