Cannot believe I wasted time watching something with the worst ending of any series I have ever seen. I cannot believe it! Anyone else annoyed to the point of screaming..

OP posts:
Sparklesdontshine · 03/02/2018 13:13

I was so disappointed! It was a totaly rubbish ending Angry

toldmywrath · 03/02/2018 14:15

I only watched the first one or two episodes. I was distressed by the dog being left in the car overnight. (Was that the first or second episode?)

Whodunnit then? Did we find out who murdered little Kiri?

OhGoveUckYourself · 03/02/2018 15:24

Me too toldmywrath! Will someone please enlighten us?

StorminaBcup · 03/02/2018 16:47

It was the Foster dad. The twist was really clumsy and not much of a surprise in the end.

toldmywrath · 03/02/2018 17:34

Thank you Bcup. But, why on earth would he do that? They were getting ready to adopt her.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 03/02/2018 17:58

Ridiculous ending! Angry

I knew it was the foster dad as soon as he offered to take the rap for the son and said 'Dave would say anything for me' (his alibi).

Why did the detective in charge if the case go to see Nate's dad after he was charged?WTAF was that all about hiding in the garage?

How come Miriam never remembered the foster mum following her in the car ALL THE WAY to the grandparents? And didn't notice her as she pulled away? And didn't report it / deal with it?

And why was she standing in the smoking shelter outside of work after she had been suspended? Had she been there all day in the hope her line manager would come out for a fag?

And how long was her dog at the vets?

Bahhhhhumbug · 03/02/2018 18:19

I didn't realise it was last one and couldn't believe that was it. I hate the actor who played the stepdad though in everything he s in. He always seem to play really slimey characters. I hate injustice so hated the ending but he lost in the end as he lost his sons respect and any relationship with him and the wife said was owing to probably divorce him and in that cringey sex scene you could tell he made her skin crawl. But obviously what he lost is no good to Kiris dad in prison. I thought Kiris grandad was about to ask who reported his sons car in the area and the female detective who came to see him seemed to be questioning his sons guilt. But as pp said possibly a sequel.

Bahhhhhumbug · 03/02/2018 18:22

'probably going to divorce him' ..... and foster dad not stepdad sorry.

catlover1987 · 03/02/2018 18:27

I felt like they were setting it up for a second series. The last half an hour were very rushed.

As a prospective adopter, all I could think was, how did this fucked up family get approved?!

StorminaBcup · 03/02/2018 18:55

Toldmywrath

Kiri came back to the house and the foster dad saw her packing a bag. Kiri was planning on going on holiday with her bio dad and the foster dad argued with her so she ran. He caught up with her, she banged her head on a rock, he thought that would look bad so finished her off. As you do Confused

holycityzoo · 03/02/2018 18:59

Yep it was bloody awful.
Shame as I enjoyed the series.

topcat2014 · 03/02/2018 19:03

The detective got the caution wrong - hasn't been like that for over 20 years.

pedant

As I said on another thread, I really liked the house though..

'telly' houses always seem much better than the characters would realistically be able to afford IRL.

toldmywrath · 03/02/2018 20:38

Thanks for that Bcup. Stupid plot device by the sounds.

WelshDutchLady · 03/02/2018 20:42

I was just as dissatisfied with the ending as I was with ‘Bancroft’ - I prefer my loose ends tied up!

Clawdy · 04/02/2018 10:54

So Kiri had a row with her real dad, ran away and decided to go home on the bus. Then she decided to pack a case and go and live with him...hmm. Foster dad sees her packing, so instead of telling wife, social worker or police, he gives her a lift back and tries to change her mind......none of it makes sense at all.

OhGoveUckYourself · 04/02/2018 12:08

Thanks for the details. I would have been absolutely furious with myself if I had watched all 4 episodes for it to end like that!

MichaelBendfaster · 04/02/2018 12:46

she banged her head on a rock, he thought that would look bad so finished her off.

I thought the banging her head on a rock actually killed her.

StorminaBcup · 04/02/2018 13:03

Hitting her head on a rock was the foster dads version of events.

blueskypink · 04/02/2018 13:04

I thought the police found a rock with blood on it?

MichaelBendfaster · 04/02/2018 13:07

I thought the police found a rock with blood on it?

Yes, they told the birth grandfather this.

StorminaBcup · 04/02/2018 13:10

They did but her foster dad said she fell first (when his son asked what happened), forensics obviously found otherwise.

If there is another series I’m not sure I’d watch it. I totally agree with the poster who wondered how the foster family even got approved for adoption! They were as dysfunctional as anything!

deadringer · 04/02/2018 13:16

Yeah I don't get it either. Bio dad said they argued and she ran off and he spent the afternoon looking for her. But by the time she got home kiri had decided to go on holiday with him/live with him? And she said she was meeting him in town? Unless she was actually running away again and lied to the adoptive father. It was so unrealistic though, the mother was plain awful, but we are supposed to believe that an intelligent, wealthy, successful man was so besotted with her that he was willing to kill a child to keep their marriage together. Nuts!

BashStreetKid · 04/02/2018 15:48

I thought it was quite good. Life doesn't always result in neatly tied up endings, and it's a bit simplistic requiring one for every series. It's interesting to think about what would happen - with the demonstrations, the employment of a good lawyer, and the fact that the woman policeman wasn't happy with the arrest, there was a degree of hope for Nate. I thought there would be a good chance that Alice's evidence about the gold car would be torn apart, and I suspect the friend who gave Jim the alibi wouldn't keep quiet if it mean an innocent man being convicted.

spiderlight · 04/02/2018 17:21

It wasn't as bad as the ending to 'The Replacement' last year, which was so awful that the writer had to do an interview to explain it! It was pretty odd though. I was wondering whether they were hoping to drag it out for a second series.

unpickthescript · 04/03/2018 16:47

but we are supposed to believe that an intelligent, wealthy, successful man was so besotted with her that he was willing to kill a child to keep their marriage together I thought that what was being revealed in the first few scenes of the 4th episode was that he raped his wife, as what we know is that she got drunk, she wasn't sure what had happened, she said she had not wanted sex, and yet they had had sex, presumably when she was not able to give consent. If so, he was also gaslighting as he was gesturing that she was part of it, and if so, he was abusive, controlling, manipulative man, quite typical of that type, and that seems to play out in the 4th episode! He wasn't besotted, he wanted control, and he loved also playing the nice guy, like many abusive people, but he was also shown capable of an extreme dreadful acts without conscience. She didn't kick off in relation to the sex, almost as though she had been putting up with it and seeing through it for years, staying together only for the sake of the children. He has 'fessed the murder but we don't know if he has 'fessed the full motive...

Posters have said it is hard to understand how the family were approved, but it is obvious from the first few episodes that the couple were able come across well when they wanted to, talk a good game, and that is how they got approved.

What is going on with the son is probably quite complicated. The mother had found a strange smell on his sheets, he talked to the social worker, he made flippant comments about sex abuse, he then said he felt guilty for not having protected Kiri better. It made me wonder if there would be another episode where more would be revealed.

The other theme was to do with Nate and his family. The police detective going beyond the call of duty to go and have words with the father is realistic according to things I have experienced! I really liked her.

I think it is realistic and really quite interesting and original and subtle. I would like to see another episode.
