I love the programme and you definitely get an insight into the two ends of the spectrum.I get the lesson that the wealthy family are taught i.e realising money isn't everything etc but for the struggling family it seems like they are left with a bit of a sour taste in their mouth as both familys are always hard working have family values etc so nothing to be learnt there just the fact that they are worse off.does anyone agree or am I missing something?

I watch it but worry that the poor family have their noses rubbed in it. It's like saying to them to have a week doing all the stuff they could never afford then pop back to their life of poverty. It leaves a bit of a bad taste for me.

there is never a rich single mum taking part or a dad. The poor family are usually single parents not a good balance.The single parent is usually a female too.

Even the poorest people in England are better off than some people living in Africa. They only have hole in the ground to use as a toilet. Programme is pointless there is always someone worse off than you.

On the same subject (ish) I can't abide Channel 4's 'Un-Datables'... I might be missing the point but to me it seams to be just making fun of people with learning/physical disabilities for the sake of TV 'entertainment'.

I had to turn of RHPH - it just feels like poverty porn.

Got a bit emotional at the end if the rhph episode whetevthe rich family 'broke the rules by buying that lady a mobility scooter resulting in her being able to take her kids to school was a lovely gesture

I feel it's rubbing the poor families nose in it too. Most parents from the poor side feel shit that they can't afford piano, horse riding, extra tuition for their dcs. It would make me feel even more inadequate and depressed by my financial situation than I already am

I tend to agree, although I still watch it for the posh house porn!! We are neither rich nor poor but I still envy the rich families their lovely houses. How did the Syrian family this week make their money?

Yes but after deductions it would be considerably less. It is supposed to be their disposable income per week surely? In this way I think the programme is sensationalized. Regardless, it was both lovely and heartbreaking to watch the "poor" mum enjoying the money and experiences she could buy.

I just watched the one with the Syrian doctors. The programme makers do pick nice people. It's nice to see. What comes out of it is that it never does any harm to get good qualifications eg the couple who are both doctors and their oldest daughter is a medical student are doing fine. I wonder what degree the son of the single mother of 4 took and if not medicine why not as that might start to get to the heart of the issue. The Syrians might have come over here 17 years ago with little money but they had their education and qualifications as doctors. Although I suppose other episodes have had people leaving school early and still building up a restaurant business and making a lot of money.

Last the boy from the 'poor' family graduated with some sort of business degree. Her other son was in agricultural college.

Cardiology and paeds are both specialities with a lot of potential for private work which presumably is where their money comes from. Glad they were nice people too.
