Poor old lovely George. Shot dead on that miserable cold beach. And on a Monday. Where's the humanity BBC? Couldn't he have retired to a nice cottage?

I'm not ashamed to say I managed to squeeze a couple of tears out of my stony heart for dead George.

Nice though that he got his Maximus Decimus Meridius moment and was reunited with Mrs George.

His bloody film crew nearly ran me over when I was going to get my hair cut one morning. I wasn't to know they'd turned the market place into a bloody car park!

Me too Squoosh. I also thought of Gladiator (presume that’s your reference). All the George Gently series have had great emotional significance for me so I found that very moving.

Did hope that Bacchus and Rachel might get together in the end!

redshoeblueshoe · 30/10/2017 22:32

I thought it was a whole new series, poor George.

squoosh · 31/10/2017 10:35

Yes, it was a Gladiator reference stone Smile

I don't usually like these period detective things but I like Inspector Gently.

They could kill that gormless young Morse and I wouldn't care a jot.

I've just watched it, a little tear left my eyes too.
Poor George Sad

diddl · 31/10/2017 19:35

Sad-especially as his killer wasn't caught.

So they killed his wife so that he would stop looking at police corruption?

It all seems a bit daft doesn't it-frame an MP for murder because he wants to develop a bit of land that they want for a US base?

kaitlinktm · 31/10/2017 22:37

I dropped a little tear too - poor George. Wasn't he supposed to have a terminal illness too?

I wonder if they will do a Morse/Lewis thing and start a series of Bacchus. (BTW I love young Endeavour - why do you find him annoying?) Sad

Katedotness1963 · 01/11/2017 13:16

Did he find out last season that he had MS?

kaitlinktm · 02/11/2017 11:05

Was it MS? I don't remember it being mentioned in the last couple of episodes though.

Cocolepew · 02/11/2017 11:58

Yes it was MS.
I presume he was going to drown himself before he was shot?

PerkingFaintly · 02/11/2017 12:00

B...b...b... no young Morse would mean no old Morse.Shock

PerkingFaintly · 02/11/2017 12:03

I wasn't going to start with a new George series. Didn't fancy the commitment.

Doesn't sound like it's going to be a problem...

kaitlinktm · 02/11/2017 13:24

I wondered that too Coco.

diddl · 02/11/2017 13:51

He was striding purposefully towards the sea, wasn't he?

I guess he knew that they would be after him?

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 02/11/2017 21:20

Just finished watching.

The scene where he was sat in the hotel room, cryingSad

Why did they kill him off? It was such a guide programme.

stonecircle · 02/11/2017 22:02

Well Martin Shaw is 72 so maybe he thought it was beginning to stretch the bounds of credibility that he might still be playing a serving detective!

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 02/11/2017 23:20

Yes, it was MS, and unlike now there wasn't much that could be done about it in the 60s. I don't understand why they suddenly seemed to drop the storyline, though - a lot was made of his symptoms in the last series, but he seemed to make a miraculous recovery in this one! Confused

RosyWelshcakes · 03/11/2017 02:34

a lot was made of his symptoms in the last series, but he seemed to make a miraculous recovery in this one!

People who have MS can have long periods of good health between relapses.
