The surfing dophins....the bird eating fish....the rays and the glowing plankton...
Blown away already.

Fabulous episode, I loved the Sea Dragon that we fleetingly saw.
Totally in awe of the cameramen especially on those waves lol

HolyShmoly · 29/10/2017 21:58

It's absolutely amazing.

However, I have a low-lying uneasiness about fish, especially really big ones, and the fish that used tools to open the shell freaked me out. As it the bird eating ones. I am not built for seafaring.

Those fake killer whales were so weird! They looked really alien and then apparently they chased the other dolphins for the craic!

I do love it when animals seem to do something just for the sheer joy of it.

FurryDogMother · 29/10/2017 22:45

What amazing television - also loved the music - Hans Zimmer, I think.

Ladydepp · 29/10/2017 22:48

The walruses! Gorgeous.

Sidge · 29/10/2017 22:48

Love it. Love it love it love it.

Can’t beat a David Attenborough programme. The photography is just stunning, the music wonderful, the wildlife incredible. Nobody does natural history like the BBC.

viques · 29/10/2017 22:55

*nobody does natural history like the BBC"

So true, when you see those awful American (sorry American MNs) where the voice over is "Hey little buddy Grizzly? Watcha got there little Pal? Mmmmm salmon! Hey, You don't wanna cook it first? " that you realise how far ahead of the game the BBC , and especially Attenborough is.

Witchend · 30/10/2017 00:20

Looking forward to seeing it later. Robot Wars won in our house. Grin

DamsonGin · 30/10/2017 00:32

Awesome stuff. The whales catching up with their mates the dolphins did for me, and then the mum and baby walrus!!! Amazing camera work and I could listen to Davies Attenborough for hours.

Blizy · 30/10/2017 01:13

Was mind blowing!

Topseyt · 30/10/2017 02:25

Absolutely amazing. Can't wait for next week's episode.

Antiques Roadshow can bugger off.

badbadhusky · 30/10/2017 06:25

DH grumbled in his usual way about anthropomorphism during the walrus scenes, but it was stunning.

squashyhat · 30/10/2017 09:02

I really wanted to enjoy this. But I think they have jumped the shark (pun intended). These series are less and less about the wildlife and more and more about 'look how clever we are at filming it' and 'look how awful mankind is at changing the habitats'.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries the huge shoals of herring the whales were feeding off would not have existed because they were being fished in their millions off the east coast of England and Scotland. No mention that changes in human practice have caused a positive effect in this instance. No - it's all anthropomorphic shots of lonely exhausted walruses. In the past it was lonely hungry polar bears - make your minds up!

And do not get me started on the relentless syrupy over-loud music.

dementedma · 30/10/2017 09:26

luminous dancing rays were jaw dropping..

Excellent episode, but did anyone else think it was a bit disjointed. If there was a theme I didn't spot it...

Tool using fish though. Mind blowing!

CeciliaMiddleton · 30/10/2017 12:17

Which fish are you? I'm the dolphin rubbing himself on coral to keep well #isitbetterthanberoccaplease www.culturewhisper.com/r/tv/blue_planet_bbc_one_sir_david_attenborough/8796

cushioncovers · 30/10/2017 16:04

Beautiful cinematography but found it jumped around a bit. In Alaska for two mins then in Japan etc.

MrsFring · 30/10/2017 16:21

Fish are the shizzle. I have an aquarium in which my ( captive bred) fish do wondrous stuff; a mated pair who dance after lights out, a fish who carefully selects a stone to crack open snails and one who spits water at me when I open the lid to feed them ( looks cuter than it sounds).

ilovecardigans · 30/10/2017 20:14

Doug Allan is one of the main cameramen responsible for the amazing footage on this and the previous series of Blue Planet. I was lucky enough to attend one of his talks in 2014 and it was an unforgettable experience. If he does another tour, try and get tickets if you can. His behind the scenes stories are jaw dropping, particularly the one about his encounter with a walrus off Baffin Island. I met him at his book signing afterwards and a nicer, more humble guy you could not wish to meet.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/10/2017 20:59

I know Holy!

I was "please God don't let them eat the dolphins, please don't let them eat the dolphins, not the dolphins, not the dolphins, please, please, please"

And then they met and "Oh, thank God! What a relief!"

custardlover · 30/10/2017 22:45

The walrus mother and her baby! Oh my goodness me. I had tears dripping off my chin and even DH was wobbly-chinned.

CandyMelts · 31/10/2017 08:13

@cardigans thanks, I've ordered his book for DH for Xmas

ilovecardigans · 31/10/2017 10:05

He's in for a treat Candy - it's a fabulous book!
