She was a professional ballet dancer!

What on earth is all the gushing about how good she looks for her age. I don't think she does at all. She does have a great body and is a good dancer but facially l think she looks quite haggard tbh. I'm a year older than her and lm not saying anymore as it will sound vain but l don't think 58 is old anyway these days.

dollybird · 10/11/2017 20:45

Wasn't it Helen something from Call the Midwife whose previous ballet experience hindered her a bit?

sweetbitter · 10/11/2017 21:03

In principal I agree. A lot of the contestants have had varying forms of dance training and experience. But I do think that actually having trained and worked as a professional ballet dancer is crossing the line a bit. I thought Denise Van Outen was quite close to that line too.

In the end though, after huffing and puffing the first couple of weeks, I have stopped caring because Debbie seems so nice and I can't help rooting for her. It's only a silly TV show after all.

That tango was overmarked though

And the other half is seeing actual good dancing. I hate seeing shit celebs who can't dance. I want to see good talent

& I have to sit throught DH & DD critising the professionals on their footwork, line of dance and bodyline etc as some of them are very very sloppy!!

holdthewine

If they've studied Musical Theatre 1/3 of their course is dance of different types

DD was hoping for that but in her third year she has had odd classes in Salsa & Jive but basically no Ballroom!

But finding celebreties with no dance experience at all must be quite tricky

dalek · 10/11/2017 22:18

I hate the way the judges fail to see any mistakes she makes - I think THAT is extremely patronising to her. And although it is not her fault it makes me dislike her dancing. Having said that I find her false and over gushy and find it very difficult to warm to her. And I hate the way her leg in the air move is shoehorned in to every routine.

randomer · 10/11/2017 22:35

Eek obviously she spent many years depriving herself of food and being sawn in half

RosemaryHoight · 10/11/2017 23:41

I like her, I think she's a young widow who devoted her life between the ages of twenty to fifty seven as Paul Daniels assistant. And then what?
Good for her for doing something that she likes and getting paid for it.
No children, no real career without her late husband.
Disappear? That's magic!

RoganLogan · 10/11/2017 23:51

I like her. She seems genuinely nice.

Beingrippedoff · 11/11/2017 20:13

I think the fact that it's decades since she was dancing professionally means this is a non issue
I want her to win - its great to have older women (ie over 40) represented instead of always just 20 something's and those in their 30s. Note I am not saying 59 is old!!

WindyWednesday · 11/11/2017 20:19

She is the same age as Ruth.

MrsJayy · 11/11/2017 20:25

Most entertainers /actors have dance training personally I couldn't give a flying hoot if she was a ballet Dancer I think she is great, interesting you didn't ask why alexandra in on strictly she is also a trained dancer

MrsJayy · 11/11/2017 20:27

dalek her mistakes were pointed out tonight

JanetStWalker · 12/11/2017 07:23

58 + VAT, surely? Hmm

RhiannonOHara · 12/11/2017 13:35

I disapprove of her too. Grin And Aston, not that that matters any more.

Debbie's salsa this week was not very good and yet got fawned over (lack of hip action; stood still waiting to be flung up into a lift). The real question IMO is who is bunging the judges money to make sure she makes it to the final?
