Anybody watching?

Love little Indiana. Doesn't want to learn to clean or do her makeup - prefers to ride her quad in a fur coat Grin

I've just switched it on. I find these programmes very interesting

custardcreamplease · 31/08/2017 21:10

Me too. Some of them have been very judgy and voyeuristic, but it's a fascinating culture. I like that they are letting the kids speak for themselves.

I think hearing the children's perspective is really interesting.

AdalindSchade · 31/08/2017 21:19

This is very different to those big fat gypsy wedding type documentaries

GraciesMansion · 31/08/2017 21:21

They're very aware of how difficult their lives are, aren't they?

AdalindSchade · 31/08/2017 21:28

Aww those little girls are so fierce

custardcreamplease · 31/08/2017 21:32

They are. I feel so sorry for Margaret and her siblings. They must have terrible stress and anxiety. The children settled on the legal sites seem a lot happier, even though facilities aren't always perfect there either.

There definitely needs to be more proper sites, but of course whenever one goes up, there's huge opposition from local residents because of the effect on house prices/stress on local services.

They've dumped a lot of rubbish at that illegal site haven't they? It must get to the stage where they know they'll be moved on in days so what's the point of making the council's life easier, when that is who is evicting them.

Kids are all very articulate aren't they, and obviously draw a lot of strength from the closeness of their families

They didn't dump the rubbish, I think it was a dump when they moved into the site and they've cleared it up to live there.

custardcreamplease · 31/08/2017 21:50

I meant the one in the estate where Margaret and her family were pitched up for a few nights - the site where Jamesy and his family live has been cleared & they're fixing it up. Don't see why they can't just stay there, as Jamesy said, the place was a muck heap when they first arrived.

GraciesMansion · 31/08/2017 21:54

No, I don't know why they can't stay unless there's then some obligation on the council to provide services if it becomes an official site? Jamesy seems like a really lovely boy, articulate and thoughtful.

purpleme12 · 01/09/2017 00:01

The only experience I've had of gypsies is them being selfish really. Obviously if I knew one I'd judge them individually but I guess my experience doesn't make me feel sorry for them. It's their parents who chose that way of life, no one else.

It is a bit of a shame Jamesie can't stay as it seems like the place isn't being used for anything.

madaki · 01/09/2017 09:13

I was a bit confused about jamesy's site. Was it built as a traveller site that was then left to go to wrack and ruin before they moved in and cleared it up or was it literally just a dump?
It seemed to have been built with amenities that were no longer being used.

Littlewhistle · 02/09/2017 14:32

At the beginning, one of the kids was complaining that people called them pikeys and how they didn't like that, then when the little girls were all in the truck to stop it being towed away, one of them was shouting "We're the pikeys and we can do what we likey"........Confused

purpleme12 · 02/09/2017 19:34

Yes exactly. I didn't get a great impression from them from the programme to be honest, thought they were disrespectful.

cushioncovers · 03/09/2017 18:56

I watched it I thought the kids were completely brainwashed by their parents into thinking they are the victims of society. I didn't think much of it to be honest.
