Fucking hell these programmes are sad and emotional

purpleme12 · 08/09/2017 00:28

What is the difference between a technician and a paramedic?

What if there aren't enough call handlers to answer the calls coming through? You'd miss a life threatening call. Are there just always a surplus of staff on so that doesn't happen?

rebelnotaslave · 08/09/2017 09:10

I've been on hold once to 999. Well it just rang and rang and rang for ages.

tigercub50 · 08/09/2017 09:13

I always think paramedics should be paid loads more! And the people in the call centre are amazing

frazzled3ds · 14/09/2017 22:02

That car crash that happened right in front of the crew on tonight's show was pretty scary!

I do wonder how folks can think that cutting yourself on a toilet roll holder justifies an emergency call though, I doubt it was the kind of cut that was spurting blood all over the bathroom....

rebelnotaslave · 14/09/2017 22:09

I know! And it seemed that despite the state of the cars most of them were walking wounded and nothing too serious.

No there 'surprise' baby! I thought of Mumsnet when she said she's bleeding from her bottom. The realisation for mum, that it was in fact her vagina, and a baby!

frazzled3ds · 14/09/2017 22:26

Yes rebel that was quite a call too! I hope that the girl and her mum both got over the shock - you could almost hear the penny drop when she realised it was around 9 months since the girl's last period....

I did feel for the call handler who was dealing with the overdose call with children in the house, it must be so hard to be at a distance from situations, on the end of a phone hearing all the shouting and chaos in the background.

Groovee · 14/09/2017 22:28

That car crash really shook me up. The girl driving, I wanted to give her a hug x

Ollivander84 · 14/09/2017 22:36

purple
Paramedics can do more invasive things as such like IV and give different drugs

Not always a surplus, there can often be calls waiting. If the operator identifies a call in the queue (the operator who asks what service you need) that is immediately life threatening then they will push it through to the emergency phone so someone can take it straight away. 15 calls waiting isn't unusual, NYE there can be 40-60 waiting

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 14/09/2017 22:42

Is it a good episode again tonight? I'm currently on a night shift so looking forwards to watching it after a good sleep!

It isn't unusual to have calls waiting. The thought of 40-60 waiting is giving me palpitations Ollivander Grin I'm working NYE this year Shock

PurplePillowCase · 14/09/2017 22:45

fascinating and harrowing.
the ambulance scene brought back memories. we were in a car accident and a passing ambulance tended to us straight away (we were thankfully all fine apart from bruises/slight whiplash thanks to seatbelts, car seats and airbags).

what happens if the ambulance gets dirty/bloody/soiled? will it be taken out of service? or does the crew do a quick clean up before going to the next call?

Ollivander84 · 14/09/2017 22:52

It would be taken off to be cleaned

purpleme12 · 15/09/2017 02:08

This is a fascinating insight.
Can't believe how little ambulances there are compared to how much are needed.
And call handlers too if there are calls waiting.
I do think surely they can't need so many people attending on each call? Then there'd be more ambulances available.
I was so worried that Sam was going to kill himself!
I felt so bad for the old woman too. And the state of her house. So sad.
And that hoax getting a child to call!! Awful!

frazzled3ds · 21/09/2017 21:23

Felt so sorry for the paramedic who is estranged from her son. How hard must it be to deal with a lad out on the streets, whilst wondering what’s happening to her own son?

ThierryEnnui · 21/09/2017 22:29

Sat here in tears after that episode. Heartwarming and heartbreaking Sad

rebelnotaslave · 22/09/2017 10:00

I shed a tear too. My dd had a febrile seizure when she was 18 months and has needed an ambulance one other time too. The paramedics were wonderful.

And the two female paramedics looking after that woman who had attempted suicide. They were just so kind and caring.

frazzled3ds · 28/09/2017 22:53

Tonight’s episode sure did shine a light on how much pressure various different services are. Certainly made me stop and think about how often the guys and gals in green get taken for granted, and taken advantage of.

purpleme12 · 28/09/2017 23:59

That man with the stroke made me cry with what he was saying.

I am shocked at the reality that this programme shows about it all. That they had to wait that long for police outside Leon's house and then they'd been called off and they didn't know!
But also it seemed to me they could have just gone in. Or if not they should have just gone onto another shout rather than waiting!

purpleme12 · 29/09/2017 00:09

The ambulance staff are so good about all the difficulties the service face like when they're waiting for ages outside a house for police or when it's a hoax call they just accept it!

It was very sobering as well hearing that paramedic saying that those 2 cases last year shook her up and she had to have counselling. I guess it shows that things sometimes really do affect them bad.

In fact I just found it all very sobering and shocking. Something seriously needs to be done. It makes me sad all of it

KangaMummy · 29/09/2017 00:27

DH and I watched tonight

We came to conclusion that short term solution for Leon was for mental health car with a police man and a MH nurse (that could be taught first aid too) should be sent each time he rang

That way they had security of police there but also if Leon needed an ambulance due to medical needs then they could get a red alert one but if not it wasn't wasting their time waiting for police and taking them away from their job or wasting an ambulance from heart attack or not breathing or emergency

Also, what was his GP practise doing about him not having drugs delivered properly and efficiently so he didn't run out. Proper checks done by carers that he was taking his drugs at proper time and didn't run out

Failure by loads of depts SadAngrySad

But fantastic work by ambulance staff and switchboard staff SmileSmileSmileSmile

frazzled3ds · 12/10/2017 22:01

Tonight’s episode was a tough watch..... I have the utmost admiration for the crews, the controllers, the emergency services in general and the GPs, nurses and hospital doctors who work so hard under incredibly difficult circumstances.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2017 22:21

I really felt for Jo, when the lady at her next fallout mentioned the lady killed by the debris. She visibly flinched and was on the verge of saying she’d treated her. But stopped her self. That must have been so hard.

purpleme12 · 13/10/2017 01:30

They didn't seem to spend very long doing CPR on the person who died. Was that because they thought she was 'incompatible with life' or was all the CPR just edited out do you think

thewheelsonthebuz · 13/10/2017 01:35

It was because of the horrendous head injuries @purpleme12

HashtagTired · 13/10/2017 10:00

If the two merit team go in the ambulance to stoke, who drives their car? 🤔
